What was your Indy ticket-buying experience last year?

Submitted by sarto1g on November 27th, 2022 at 6:09 AM

Would anyone care to share their experience re:acquiring tickets last season?  What day did you buy, at which price point, plans for getting in this weekend, etc.

I couldn’t make the trip last year so definitely making up for it this time around.  Any advice is greatly appreciated!  My (naive) hope is that demand shouldn’t quite reach last season’s and that getting into Lucas Oil can be done affordably.  Cheers!

FWIW I’m in the same situation as you.   Booked my hotel immediately after the game but waiting on buying tickets.

Also waiting on the University to announce ticket allocation because I have a decent number of points accumulated through the years.

I cannot wait for next Saturday!!!!

Just post on eleven warriors. I’m sure lots of posters are willing to sell you a few and probably even some natty tix. In all seriousness, the ticket sites have them for under $200. I may grab 3 and make the trip.

There really is no bad seat in that stadium. It's amazing. I was wayyyyyy in the nosebleeds last year (and will be again this year), and they were great seats. Get there early, and party all day!

I found it an incredibly sterile environment and a massive downgrade from the previous week in Ann Arbor.

That said, I had no problems finding a good seat via TicketIQ, which gave a better price than StubHub. (I don’t remember the specifics but it was definitely less than the OSU ticket I bought, and much less than the Georgia ticket). I waited until Friday, as is my wont; surprisingly, prices rose rather than falling, so if you see a good deal, pounce on it

Just, understand that you’re looking at more of an NFL experience than a college experience and set your expectations accordingly. I’m glad I went, but I don’t know that I’d do it twice.

This is useful information, thank you. I went to the Orange Bowl and while the pro stadium atmosphere--and BLARING sound system--were not my favorites, the playoff atmosphere was definitely there. The draw to Indy, which I did not go to last year, is the chance to see us win a championship. Plus it's within driving distance. OTOH the allure of 1-2 CFP games makes the decision to go to Indy even more interesting. Go Blue!

I’ve bought them directly from the stadium since the 2nd year they started playing the Championship game back in 2012.

I’ve been able to sell those same tickets pretty easily when I got tired of watching OSU beat the snot out of whoever the West was sending.  Plenty of people around the stadium day of and you’ll likely even be able buy tickets at the door if you just want to get in.

I paid WAYYY too much for horrible seats, but it was worth it :)

I don't know that demand will be all that much lower as this is in Purdue's backyard and they've not been to this game yet.

My biggest piece of advice is don't get too far from downtown after the game and try to call an Uber/Lyft. They don't exist whatsoever at that time of day. We had a VERY frigid 2-hour walk back to our airbnb last year.

We waited until a couple days before the game. It was risky, and prices kept climbing throughout the week, but they did flatten out just before the game and we got a good price. I agree that prices probably won’t be as bad as last year. Go Blue!

Last year I bought right after we beat OSU, but I had to bid on several increasingly expensive pairs of tickets before I finally got some. Ended paying $300+ apiece. This year I bought my tickets a couple months ago for face value. I figured I could always sell them for a profit if needed. So glad we’re going again.

Bunch of parking garages downtown a lot of people parked and just went to bars. If you go that route and want something to eat I’d start calling restaurants now to try to reserve a table because everywhere was blown out last year. But to tailgate there’s two parking lots on the corner of South and Pennsylvania catty-corner from each other. We parked at one of em last year and people had there awnings and shit up. Think they’re both like $20 and you can stay til like 3 or 4am.

Does anyone know which side of the stadium is the Michigan fan side and which is the Purdue side, assuming there are designated sides to an extent?  Not a huge deal to me but naturally would rather sit in a section with Michigan fans than Purdue as I am looking at tickets on the secondary market.    TIA!

If you look at the seating chart on SeatGeek, the East team is on the visitor side. The band will be over by the section 105 corner (can’t recall exactly which section the band is placed in), and that’s where the university allocated tickets will be. I have been going to championship game since its inception and since the East/West divisions, that’s how it’s been. Don’t think it would change but there’s probably a B1G specific map out there too you could double check.

Checked the secondary market like a friend last year. Think I ended up purchasing tickets on the Thursday before the game ended up in the student section for $33x.xx. Asked one of the students what they actually had to pay and they  said $50 lol. Oh we’ll still cool swing UM win the championship!

I’m local and kept an eye on stub hub, prices didn’t dip much throughout the week, I saw a decent deal and thought, “Ef it, I’m not missing this game in my backyard”. Turns out, it was an iowa student ticket and required a student idea. A.) I don’t have an Iowa student idea and B.) that would be miserable for me and the Iowa students in my vicinity.  So I complain to stub hub, they stiff the Iowa student with a $70 fee for not delivering the tickets (he did, and I emailed stub hub to try and do him a solid, but I ain’t paying two hundo for a non-usable ticket that’s marketed as general admission), and stub hub finds me an “equivalent” seat and doesn’t charge me more that ends up being much better.

ps. The game was awesome.

Does anyone have experience with the Big 10 ticket process powered by ticketmaster?

I bought tickets today and logged into the site to accept the seats using my ticketmaster credentials and the tickets do not have a bar code and it says something went wrong....

Do I need a seperate app like for MLB tickets or will they end up in my ticketmaster app?

Thanks in advance.
