What Big Ten team impressed you the most?

Submitted by MichiganForever on

Big Ten had an oustanding weekend going 9-2 against non-conference opponents

Even Rutgers played a top 10 Washington team extremely tough.

Maryland and Purdue impressed me the most.

Maryland went on the road in what was supposed to be Tom Herman's coronation as the next big thing and stole the crown. While they put up points to outpace Texas, I was also impressed with their resiliency. They lost a key player late in the game and that player had to be stretchered off (he is OK). They gave up a TD on the next play. Instead of wilting under the pressure, they continued to succeed. They're my most impressive team.

Purdue stuck with a talented Lousiville team with a Heisman QB. You probably would've thought it would have been a blow out but Purdue even had the lead for much of it. They deserve a nod.

Ohio State sputtered early but destroyed Indiana in the second half. Wisconsin also had some early struggles. Penn State took care of business. Michigan looks closer to the best timeline we could imagine. I'd say those are the two surprises.

There are some interesting match ups in Week 2 and we'll learn more about pretty much everyone else.

Northwestern @ Duke

Iowa @ Iowa State

Indiana @ Virginia

Western Michigan @ Michigan State

Pitt @ Penn State

Nebraska @ Oregon

Oklahoma @ Ohio State

Will see, but usc is just not that good. They made Penn state look better than they are. Usc is the most overrated team in the top ten with Washington second and Penn state third. Purdue played well but louisville will lose a lot this year and if there QB ever gets dinged....done. Very surprised by Rutgers but there are a lot of teams ahead of Michigan that flat out are not as good. Washington is one of them.

Last year in Lincoln, Oregon decided to try the 2 point conversion after every single touchdown they scored and they failed on every attempt. If they would have just kicked the PAT, they would have won. Oregon is going to need to play smarter and I think they'll be motivated. They pretty much handed the game to Nebraska with all those 2 point conversion attempts.

The big ten east looked good. The west not so much. Nevada, Buffalo. Ball State and Arkansas State. All sqeekers. That is pathetic and Wisconsin was tied at half with Utah State. Maryland looked good but they have no defense and Texas just plain sucks. Curious to see how this year plays out.

Besides us if course... Rutgers most improved...bigger and faster...Kill brings competency Maryland close second...Durkin is looking like a program saviour

I thought Sparty would lose to BG given no other reason than how putrid they were last year. First L against Western guaranteed next week however.

Joking aside, Lewerke looked like an improvement over O'Connor, but not worried about a running QB that we have 2 weeks to prepare for. Thats meat for Don Brown

College football coaches are also insanely competitive type A folks who probably can't bear the thought of just taking it easy and not doing anything. Remember Kill's press conference when he resigned from Minnesota? Dude looked like retiring was was the absolute last thing he wanted to do. I hope his health allows him to continue doing what he loves.

In Maryland compared to Michigan. I expected Michigan to win that game relatively comfortably knowing Florida has no offense.

Maryland was the definition of average last year (6-7), and went into Texas who should seemingly be fired up behind a new genius coach and smacked them upside the head.

Frankly, I think Tom Herman is overrated and I wouldn't be surprised if Texas was back at square one four or five years from now. Houston really faded down the stretch last year after starting the season as presumptive CFP contenders.
