Weekend Games of Note w/ Betting Odds

Submitted by alum96 on

After a quite boring week with a lot of top teams on bye and Temple v Notre Dame as the marquee game things pick back up.

Here are the key games with betting odds and I also put their overall FEI rank next to the name.  For reference, UM has been bet up from 21.5 fav to 24.5 fav and is FEI #10 / Scarlet Knights are #98.

Undefeated teams in action with enticing games

  • MSU (#7) 5.5 pt favorites @ Neb (#38)
  • Iowa (#17) 7 pt favorites @ Ind (#60)
  • Bama (#3) 6.5 pt favorites hosting LSU (#4)
  • Clemson (#1) 12 pt favorites hosting FSU (#27)
  • TCU (#12) 5 pt favorites @ OK State (#19)

Other

  • ND (#2) 8 pt favorites @ Pitt (#29)

I think the ND-Pitt and Iowa-Ind game both have "closer than you think"/"upset alert" written on them as road games vs half competent teams.   Indiana gave OSU all it could handle even with injuries late in that game, and MSU all it could handle for 55 minutes.  Of course they still revert to being Indiana in the last 5 minutes of all games.  Pitt is not great but ND road game, coming off "big game" with Temple and Pitt has one of the best wrs in the country (albeit with a meh QB).   Both home teams should be geared up for hosting an undefeated.

I wish I could say the same for Neb but their passing defense currently is 124th in FBS....of 127.  Mike D'Antoni spent the week wiping drool off Cook's jersey.  Armstrong has also been beat up and playing that DL when you arm punt and have decreased mobility - well we've seen that film a few times.  But we can hope.

My two favorite games this week...

Indiana +7 v Iowa

Washington State +2.5 AZ State

MSU and Utah lines seem like sucker bets.  I'll be staying away from both.

May be a bit of wishful thinking, but I really think Nebraska is going to give them a game. This is basically Nebraskas bowl game at this point. Night game, proud program, and nowhere near as bad as their record would suggest. I basically will ignore the result of the Purdue Nebraska game since Armstrong didn't play.

Even if it is wishful thinking, I would absolutely love to see the Huskers win. Armstrong will be back, they have very little else to play for, and this is indeed their bowl game. With all the crazy finishes they have had, I will be a Husker fan for the night (after UM dismantles Rugers of course...)

The Clemson - Florida State game is probably going to be more interesting than a 12-point spread, in my own opinion. By most metrics, Florida State holds most of the cards when it comes to offensive advantage in that matchup, but not by a huge margin. On the other hand, Clemson's is probably the slightly better defense, so these teams match up pretty well and I would think it stays pretty close - I can see Clemson not covering here.

The unit matchups seem to agree with you with FSU O v Clemson D.  Looks like FSU's D is going to have to play up to keep it within the spread if FEI is correct.  I have only watched the Clemson ND game and not seen a lick of FSU this year.

Clemson O (#14) v FSU D (#46)

FSU O (#10) v Clemson D (#5)

With apolgies to Eagle Nation, I was not impressed with LSU's defense while watching the EMU game.  Alabama should be able to slow LSU quite a bit.  That combination leads me to think 'Bama rolls.

Since "that play" my dream scenario starts to play out this weekend:

Nebraska beats MSU -> OSU beats MSU -> Michigan beats OSU -> Michigan subsequently wins the B1G Championship and Rose Bowl.

Yep, my first post, too. So it HAS to happen.

Wow - the MSU line looks really low given that Neb is a tire fire right now.  With that said, I would be leery of that one in the same way USC was laying 3.5 to #3 (at the time) Utah a couple weeks ago.
