"Week 1" opening night game thread
More college football tonight! Some of it might actually be good! (Probably not - don't care).
Big Ten football starts tonight with Minnesota taking on FCS South Dakota State. Also UCLA vs Cincinnati as early night game and the BYU-Utah Holy War late.
Productivity tomorrow morning will be low.

Arizona St. takes down Sparty in a couple weeks?
August 29th, 2019 at 11:09 PM ^
Could happen, but I doubt it. I’m betting MSU gets about 2 metric tons worth of luck this season, but that’s just my negativity talking.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:42 PM ^
If Arizona St. can throw successfully MSU will lose.

When you miss the PAT, you can lose your momentum. BYU needs to answer...

Nice drive by SDSU. Now leading.

BAIL THE BOAT!!! BAIL THE BOAT!!

The ship be sinking.

The Boat has sprung a major leak!

Jack rabbits love totally free checking. Who knew

These games have been pretty entertaining this evening. God I've missed college football

Stark difference in look between the Holy War and the UMinn-SDSU game. Utah-BYU looks like a big time CFB game, with snappy uniforms and a big huge crowd. UMinn has a nice crowd, but the field and uniforms make it look G5 at best, but my first thought was FBS.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:29 PM ^
It’s because both teams in the SDSU / Minn game have corny ass slogans on their helmets.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:41 PM ^
It's also the difference between the WWL and Fox's version of the Ocho

MILF alert!
August 29th, 2019 at 11:40 PM ^
We're talking about the ref, right?
Not gonna lie, I'd never complain about a bad call ever again...
August 29th, 2019 at 11:52 PM ^
I was talking about a BYU mom getting interviewed for like 5 mins.
August 30th, 2019 at 12:22 AM ^
They're both totally boppable.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:35 PM ^
So much for the notion Minnesota was going to end up in the BIG championship game.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:36 PM ^
I may be in the minority, but I think PJ Fleck is a phony.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:55 PM ^
Has he ever been in the same room at the same time as Pitbull? Just sayin'.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:39 PM ^
I can't believe Holy War is this early in the season.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:54 PM ^
First time they've opened together since 1895, or some such eccentric date back then...
August 30th, 2019 at 12:13 AM ^
I had no idea Utah was a thing in 1895. It was probably Joseph Smith vs. the locals.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:49 PM ^
So annoying when teams like Minnesota should lose and get super lucky towards the end of games.
August 30th, 2019 at 6:56 AM ^
Hard to envision Gophers winning the division if they struggle mightily at home with an FCS school.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:50 PM ^
Turnover gift and Minnie with the momentum now. Six straight runs between the tackles and a trick-play 2pt conversion.
SD St. has looked like the better team the entire second half but Minnie leads by 7.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:51 PM ^
Great 2-point play by Minny.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:57 PM ^
Why am I hoping for a SDSU TD on this drive? I mean, I like watching the B1G win, and I don't really have anything against Minn. Is it the underdog thing?
In any case, it makes for an interesting game that explains me still being up on a school night...
August 30th, 2019 at 12:02 AM ^
Probably because for most of the game it looked like SDSU was outplaying the gophers and the Minn kept getting lucky breaks. Reminds me of a bunch of Sparty wins over the years.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:59 PM ^
Lol outside run to the boundary on 3rd and long when you have to go for it on 4th down. Great call SDSU XD
August 29th, 2019 at 11:59 PM ^
This is why teams like SDSU lose. It's 3rd & 12, and they hand it off 7 yds deep looking for the corner on the short side of the field. Picked up 2 yds, and got sacked on 4th and 10. Game over, good night!
August 30th, 2019 at 12:01 AM ^
Totally knew MN would Win. Wasn’t worried at all.
August 30th, 2019 at 12:01 AM ^
The Mayhem dude in the commercial looks like a young Les Miles.
Sounds about right.
August 30th, 2019 at 12:03 AM ^
Love how fallible Lawrence and Clemson looked. I'm penciling in a CFP championship for the good guys.
August 30th, 2019 at 12:09 AM ^
/s?
Let’s beat OSU first.
August 30th, 2019 at 12:14 AM ^
Oregon State?
August 30th, 2019 at 12:51 AM ^
Disappointing 2nd half to what seemed like a good game. Oh well, though, still a good night overall. Kinda wanted Utah to lose only because it would make Pac12 look worse. Whittingham is a good, but not elite, coach.

Just got back from the Central Arkansas / Western Kentucky game. UCA won their 3rd ever game against an FBS school. Great game, UCA scored 21 points in the fourth quarter. UCA were a 10.5 point underdog. Finally got to see the home of the Jack & Jackie Harbaugh Stadium Club.
This was my 2 year old's first football game. Looking forward to taking him to the Big House Saturday.
Also - seemed like a non-FBS school beat an FBS school every week last year. Looks like we're off to more of the same this year.
