Way OT: Bob Dylan “1970”

Submitted by Cousin Larry on February 27th, 2021 at 8:46 PM

Mr. Zimmerman’s new archive set is 3 CDs, 74 unreleased recordings, comprising almost 3.5 hours of Dylan in all his glory.  These sessions produced both “Self Portrait” (LOL) and “New Morning.”  Nine of the tracks include none other than Mr. George Harrison chiming in.

It’s … really f***ing good.  And I’m two stiff vodka-tonics in, hence this post.

Have a great rest of your MGoWeekend!

Never buy entertainment centers based on media storage. I'm looking at the beautiful  solid maple rig we bought 12 years or so ago and the towers flanking each side have a total of ten slide out CD shelves in them.

They make halfway decent wine shelves now -- thankfully they're behind glass doors..

CD's are in five boxes in the basement. I'll let the kids deal with them after I croak.

My dad and I really loved Dylan. One of two concerts we saw together. That was a really good concert too, at the Palace I believe. Dylan played with a big blues band doing bluesed up versions of his songs. Foo Fighters opened doing an acoustic set.

I was so much older then.  I am younger than that now.

He presents an influence that cuts so many ways and is hard for me to describe.

I love My Back Pages.

I'll have to look into that "Dylan 1970" ---the thought of listening to it seems delicious! Surprisingly, as a big fan of Bob Dylan, this is the first I've been made aware of it.

Just yesterday I learned of another amazing "blast from the past", a reissue of "The Who Sell Out" with tons of newly-discovered material and outtakes.

Available both on vinyl and CD, I'm going to try to get ahold of the special edition vinyl pressing, part of it on "baked beans orange".

I spent one great day at Rich Stadium in Buffalo after camping in Niagara and traveling through Canada.  It was 1986.  Petty opened for Dylan who opened for The Dead.  Then they all played a five song encore.

As a kid, I liked knockin on Heaven's door. lay lady lay, and like a rolling stone. There are quite a few other songs I liked as well, as well as his songs that were big hits from others, like along the watch tower (Hendricks version ).
