That's a great hire in my opinion. He turned around Fresno State in the Mountain West, that is true. But he was also the OC at Indiana for Tom Allen when they had that offense competing amongst the top of the B1G, before that he was OC for EMU under Chris Creighton when they finally became bowl eligible and ran a potent MAC offense, before that he was the HC at Southern Illinois at D-IAA and turned them from a doormat to a competitor, and before that he went like 97-3 or something crazy as the head coach at Souix State or something like that at the D-III level. That guy is an excellent coach.

I know all this because he would have been my pick for Michigan to hire if they had in fact moved on from Harbaugh after last season. Obviously the Michigan job is no longer in discussion for awhile. But that is a great hire for Washington.

Yup, really solid hire. A lot of programs always look at the top 4-5 names and freak out when they don't land them but there are almost always very obvious hires for a bump and he is one.

He may fail spectacularly at UW. I don't know but I wouldn't bet on it. At worst I think he'll be average. Their floor with him is a bad bowl team, ceiling a contender for conference titles most years.

At first, they heard that a currently unemployed football coach named "DeBoer" with connections to Georgia was available and they had him under consideration until they discovered that Frank de Boer's football coaching experience was with Ajax, Inter Milan, Crystal Palace, Atlanta United and the Netherlands national team.

Washington has a fairly high ceiling but also a low floor with the wrong coach.  They also seem to be, like a lot of schools, reactive in their hires -- e.g. followed the off-the-field horrorshow of Neuheisel with the straight laced Willingham -- and now are going for an offensive mind in DeBoer after the ineptness of Lake/Donovan.

I've never really had a second team to root for but always kind of liked them.  Their helmets/uniforms and color scheme are cool and that '91 team was truly awesome (and deserved a national championship instead of Miami)
