WaPo & MSNBC Journalist Eugene Robinson in GR today
Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Eugene Robinson (Class of 74) spoke at the Economic Club of Grand Rapids this afternoon. He said that his entry into journalism was due to a persistent teaching assistant his freshman year at Michigan. He had enrolled to study architecture but was pestered by the TA to submit an essay to the Hopwood Award, which he then won. The award came with $100 and that was enough for him to leave architecture behind. He then began writing for the Daily and later became its first African-American Co-Editor in Chief.

Irrelevant and Fake News. Not really the place to post this. Atleast put OT.

...what?

Sorry we couldn't get any more accomplished Clemson alums to visit and give a talk for you.

He is an alum of the school, so I assume this is true. It's also more relevant than an SNL clip about some stupid display at an MSU bookstore.
I assume the news orgs in the title is your problem, but this seems like a pretty relevant "cool story bro" for one of our least controversial alumni.

Irrelevant, maybe. Fake, NO! Tired of people calling everything "fake news." This is not fake; it is real. It is true. Harrumph.

Is the problem that Eugene Robinson works for the mainstream media? I for one hope we replace the mainstream media with insiders like the ones who told us about MSU's new head football coach, Luke Fickell.

Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.

One of the dumbest statements from one of the most intelligent men...
Everyone has their moment I guess!

Ya'll get triggered way too easily. Weed is legal here ya know. Maybe I was wrong, but wow, BIG MAD!
February 10th, 2020 at 9:45 PM ^
you are irrelevant and fake
February 10th, 2020 at 9:48 PM ^
Most would agree with irrelevant. Fake, I am not, my dude.

Stick to Bigfoot, ghost stories, and unsolved murders.

GR is an odd place for a WaPo and MSNBC person to be.
February 11th, 2020 at 7:11 AM ^
I get that West Michigan is generally more conservative than the typical MSNBC viewer, but GR is the second largest city in one of the three most important electoral states in the country in an election year. Feels right to me.
February 11th, 2020 at 8:47 AM ^
Also GR proper is tilting liberal in a hurry (never mind the outer suburbs) with the influx of young people.
February 10th, 2020 at 8:34 PM ^
Don't mind dudes commentary, but I wouldn't want to get it face to face without wearing a sneeze guard.
February 10th, 2020 at 8:45 PM ^
That's nice and all, but not really relevant here (or at least mark as OT).
February 10th, 2020 at 9:45 PM ^
haha! I said the same thing basically and people lost their shit. This place is weird.
February 10th, 2020 at 11:40 PM ^
Might be the "Fake News" part of your post, and your generally confrontational tone. Just spitballing here.
February 11th, 2020 at 5:31 AM ^
And there's a difference between people losing their shit, and people objecting to shitty comments by someone who's trying to start shit.
Just more spitballing.
February 11th, 2020 at 8:48 AM ^
Yeah, the "fake news" comment definitely had nothing to do with the difference in reception...
February 10th, 2020 at 10:15 PM ^
Yeah, it’s nice and all. On topic includes “University of Michigan topics that don’t relate to sports.” Is Robinson’s journalism origin story a “University of Michigan topic?” I thought so but maybe you disagree. Off topic includes “Pro sports of any variety” but that gets tolerated regularly.
It’s also not football season so I figured it was fine for a slow night on the board.

Interesting news and background about a famous alum seems way more relevant than yet another post about MSU. I for one was not aware that Robinson was an alum

Who thought MGoBlog would be site of a Thomas Sowell/Eugene Robinson feud!

Stirring the pot with such Gordon Ramsey enthusiasm...

Didn't know he was an alum. Robinson is an excellent newsman, proud to know he's a Michigan Man!
