Wal-Mart Buckeyes!
A quote from Ed Rife's sentencing hearing:
A friend, Sean Abbott, said Rife often took him into his house when he was homeless and always cared for him.
After Abbott finished speaking, [Federal District Court Judge] Frost, laughing, said he had to ask Abbott where he got the Ohio State jersey he was wearing.
"I bought this one from Wal-Mart." Abbott said.
What kind of idiot testifies in support of a defendant in Federal Court wearing a sports jersey of the team related to a huge scandal the defendant was just involved in?

This story is rife with opportunities for laughter.

ESPN highlights this quote
This is a terrible offense. There's no getting around it.
-- U.S. District Court Judge Gregory Frost
Was he referring to Rife or the 2011 Buckeyes? Both?

the TSIO Wal-Mart jerseys are as off-colored and "jank" as our UM Meijer "97" jerseys

but who the hell wears a Jersey to court? Does he expect the judge to take him seriously?

Never been to court, but who the hell wears a Jersey to court? Does he expect the judge to take him seriously?
This guy was, apparently, homeless at one point and he was testifying on behalf of his drug dealer friend. I think it's safe to say that decision making isn't either of these guys' core competencies.

Only in Ohio.

If I lived in Ohio, I feel like I'd see things at least 10-15 times a day that would lead me to say this out loud.
October 27th, 2011 at 12:40 PM ^
That's on a slow day.

I laughed when I read this, not because of what you posted, but the picture of Denard with it. I know that is part of your signature but it just makes me feel like Denard is saying it in a cheesy 80s sitcom style voice. I also pictured him sitting with Hoke and Mike Martin and Taylor Lewan just chillin in a kitchen drinking lemonade and Hoke and D-Rob point at each other when he said it.
As you can tell, slow day at work.

Abbott strikes me as the type that would wear a name tag to a robbery.

a sports jersey to court!!!
You would be surprised what many believe to be exceptable courtroom digs. Wife-beaters, cut-off sweats for god sake. I have seen people kicked out of the courtroom for it. I saw one person held in contempt.
October 27th, 2011 at 12:28 PM ^
This is an exceptable outfit. He should have worn anything, except a jersey. If you meant acceptable, then you've lost me....

I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.

Hoke would have completely changed the tide on the rivalry if people in Ohio started showing up to court appearances wearing Michigan jerseys.

He at least made light of the fashion issue and had brief chuckle.
What's really sad is that Rife's life has been blown apart again, but this time with 3 yrs of prison. I feel badly for his estranged wife and children, though they are 100% way better off without drug-dealers and addicts in their life.
October 27th, 2011 at 1:41 PM ^
So....you feel bad for this drug dealing loser? Yeah...me too. Must have been terrible to have no possible choice other than to get involved in illegal activities. Poor, poor guy.

Aren't all buckeyes wal-mart buckeyes?
October 27th, 2011 at 3:55 PM ^
The adjective "Wal-Mart" is redundant when applied to "Buckeye." It's like saying "Wet Water."
October 27th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
.....that OSU fans cannot dress appropriately for sentencing hearings. I wonder what sort of tie you wear with a Buckeye jersey? Which booster would pay for it?
