Wake Up, Have Coffee, Beat Sparty

Mates,

Good morning U of M!  Big day of hoops vs. our dear friends in East Lansing.   It is an incredibly clear (but cooool) day, and a great day to have our team keep its momentum going vs. sparty.  Yeah, the spartans are a good team, top 20 at least, and as much as we bag on Izzo, he is a good (not great) coach.   That said, our guys are rounding into form, shots are falling, young guys are getting to their spots on offense and on defense, and their intensity has been climbing.

What is in your cup this morning?

What is your prediction, beyond Kenpom, for today's game?

Have a great day and Go Blue!

Nespresso fortado and some heated milk. Basically a cortado. What’s in yours XM?

Im predicting MSU finds just enough ways to put our team off our game and we lose a close one. Hope I’m wrong. Go blue!

i had cold brew we make at home.  one cup @ 0500 hrs is pretty typical, even on a saturday.

can see us not being able to get it done today, but still hopeful. we have at least some momentum and as much as sparty has been a thorn in our side for football, we have done much the same to them in hoops.

your avatar is pretty apropos for the day.

Starbucks Verona dripping from my ninja. Tough matchup for it small guards. I think state wins this one unless Hunter goes Wagner beast mode which he may.

Hey no offense, but Starbucks makes awful coffee. You can get much, much better quality, fresher beans, single origin coffee for less money from a lot of roasters. Starbucks over-roasts (burns) almost everything to cover up for inferior quality beans.

Anyhow.

Beat Sparty.

Drunkin' Donuts morning blend, medium roast.  My Bosch machine is dern near 20 years old and still brews the same cup it did back in the day.  It's kinda big, though, and I've been thinking about downsizing since I only drink one cup on weekdays driving to work, and two on weekends.  Been thinking about a Kuerig, but it's hard to replace something that works flawlessly.

Oh, yeah, the game!!  I think UM will keep it competitive all the way through and put a good scare into the Breslin doofuses.  Alas, officiating will screw over UM to give MSU that extra push they need to close it out.  That little troll will be in the officials ear all day, and they always get calls at Breslin.

Fuck MSU.

Starbucks dark roast made at home.  They do make great coffee!  But, a bag of ground coffee that lasts several weeks costs the same as two venti cups at the store.  Another reason not to venture out in the cold this morning.

We’re in Tucson right now, so the sons of light battle the sons of darkness at 10:30 our time.  We use a Sacco Incanto one-cup coffee maker fueled with Costco’s Jose brand of bean.  All the while, I’m thinking that we really need to keep Hunter out of foul trouble and that the Breslin has been the worst place to do just that.  Should be an interesting game between two wildly inconsistent teams.

This was one of those mornings when your piss freezes before it hits the ground.

I'm on caffeine and amphetamines, putting up insulation in my garage, trying to reinforce the joists in the attic to build a loft, and hopefully in my free time making mortise and tenon joints with my new router.

I'm still trying to figure that out, lol. They are currently 2x4s spaced 24" on center, and I'm amazed it even passed inspection (30 year old house). So I'm going to see if I can put 2x6s between the joists, but if that isn't possible I may consider floor trusses. Either way I need a structural engineer to evaluate it. There's a lot of strange things about how the house was built ?

I am trying to envision what you are looking at. If I have it correctly, your best bet is probably to toenail two by fours in the alternate spaces, in another words turning your floor into 12 inch centers. Not sure scabbing two by sixes on the side of your existing two by fours will give you that much assistance, not to mention the fact you’re going to have a funky floor level if that’s what you’re looking to lay on there.

EYB, i think you'll want to check your floor joist chart in the building code, its at R502.3.1(2), et seq. if you think you're actually going to use it for a floor with traffic.  however, what you are describing seems to be the type of floor that you use to store your kayak, the Christmas lights, some fishing gear, your wife's old office records, etc, and really don't walk up there much.  2 x4's on 12" centers should be more than adequate for that type of use and obviate the need to rip out the dry wall.

i don't know what type of access you would have to toenail those joists, but you might invest in joist hangers for more stability if access permits.  example below:

Joist Hangers For Decks | Newsonair.org

before you ask, yes, i am a licensed builder and have been since last century.  it's not my day job, so to speak, but i have pounded plenty of nails and poured many yards of concrete in my life.

Thank you, that is very helpful! Yes it's likely just going to be storage, but the original supports are so weak I was worried it wouldn't even hold up the dead load if I were to put a floor in and drywall. I kinda guessed when you said you had once built trusses on site that you must reeeeally know what you're doing, lol.

if you were my neighbor (or somewhat nearby), i'd be there with some of my sons, hammers in hand, and we'd knock that out with you and for you in no time.  not a difficult fix at all.

incidentally, when you get around to actually putting a floor up there let me know and i would try to have some helpful suggestions on that.

Weekends mean the good stuff in my house - Kona coffee in my French press.

As for the game, I’m not confident bc our shooting has still been very erratic and we just don’t have an alpha dog who can take over the game. That said, I’ll be watching hoping to be proven wrong. A win in this game should move us solidly into the better side of the bubble.

I just had my coffee! Barista Dick made some fresh ground Jose's vanilla nut, medium ground made in my Aeropress. Mixed in some Condensed milk, vanilla syrup, and some sugar and I'm ready for some Michigan whooping of some Sparty ass today!

Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce down the hatch. Let's send Sparty down the chute. Go Blue!

I will start a GoFundMe to any player who trucks Izzo while he is on the court. It's time to either get the little troll off the court or make him pay for being on it. It would be nice to see the refs stand up to him at least once.

Tim Horton's coffee, black..... still can't taste it, but if I don't get a couple cups in i'll have a splitting headache...

A buddy of mine just became part owner of a small coffee shop in NY...  if you're a coffee snob, you'll want to get them a go.    Georgios Coffee Roasters....  (i'd post a link, but I don't want to get hit with the ban hammer for advertising) they're easy to find, use the google.

Go Blue.... beat 'lil bro.

MSU is vastly over-rated.

Hunter will dominate Bingham inside, causing doubles, open 3s and another loss for Izzo.

Houstan should have a good game

Would be nice for Kobe to see 15 minutes, thought he would develop faster than Aikens has for MSU.

Beat spartie!

I did a cup of coffee earlier today in my Keurig using a refillable pod (I have a couple of them so that I always have one available for the 2nd cup).

I'll get the electric percolator out to use occasionally, I've always enjoyed the aroma of percolating coffee, but it's a bear to clean all the parts after use and I'm usually too lazy ?

Otherwise, most days I use the coffeemaker endorsed by the great Joe DiMaggio.

Britt dark roast with some amoxicillan and hydrocodone.  Got some snow last night so it feels like a special day down here. We're going to beat sparty.  72-66
