Two gambling guru's talk about the game.

➡ They like Michigan's defense.

➡ Maybe the point spread is too high.

➡ And one gives his case why Michigan is looking bad on offense.

I get we're not happy with QB play, and Harbaugh has clearly not worked miracles with the QBs, but let's at least be realistic with the performance:

2015: Harbaugh arrives with zero viable options in the QB room. Finds Rudock. After some growing pains in the new offense, Rudock turns into a good QB

2016: Speight, a whodat recruit everyone knocked Hoke for picking up, turns into a pretty good QB and the team comes within an inch of the playoffs

2017: Speight starts a bit shaky as the OL falls apart and he starts seeing ghosts. Then he gets headhunted out of the Purdue game. O'Korn is terrible (hey, maybe Harbaugh was right to stick with Speight?) and gets quickly replaced by Peters, who is also pretty iffy (hey, maybe Harbaugh was right to doubt he was ready?). Then Peters gets knocked out too by a Wisconsin concussion and we O'Korn our way to a tough OSU loss.

2018: Patterson brought in since Peters clearly is not the answer and DCaf is too raw. Does a generally good job, enough that fans are frustrated we aren't leaning on the QB more, especially with RPOs and more QB option runs.

2019: We install an offense that leans more heavily on the QB. Patterson does poorly with this. Compounding this, he seems to have a nagging oblique injury possibly affecting his accuracy. DCaf seems to be ready to be a plausible starter... Patterson gets yanked in the bad Wisconsin game, DCaf looks okay moving the ball but once again we lose a QB to a head injury, and presumably the recovery time and resultant lack of practice have kept him out until now.

Honestly it's been 5 years but Harbaugh has also been very unlucky with injuries and a bare cupboard when he arrived. Peters was a legitimate recruiting whiff in Harbaugh's first class, but his other recruits are TBD.

I disagree with the way Harbaugh handled Peters.  I think he placed way too much emphasis on being a vocal, rah-rah leader.  I think he should have been more flexible and experimented a bit to see if he could achieve what he needed getting leadership from other offensive players.

Peters may have failed anyway, but I don't think he got a fair shake, and I think it was due to Harbaugh being too fixed and dogmatic in what he thought a starting QB should be.

All IMHO, of course.

It is true. Shea isn't playing well at the moment..he seems to lock onto his first read and seems unprepared somehow. Harbaugh moved on from Speight for Shea. This one I was surprised at.  I liked Speight and his presence and it went sideways somehow.    Also jettisoned Peters in a sense. For Shea.     So, how Shea performs Harbaugh has to live with....  We were pretty close last year and was doing well. Now it's a new offense and Shea is sputtering a bit.  Up until now that is. Let's hope the growing pains are over here.  If he were in the same offense from last year I think he'd be quite seasoned in it and doing very well.

Why do people keep saying Milton isn't ready? Tua comes in second half of NC game as a true freshman...

Milton was lost last year, but looked damn good against Rutgers a few weeks ago.

Not sure if he can throw a touch pass like a screen - but Patterson hasn't hit those either

D-caf - haven't seen enough. Seems like he needs another year to bulk up imo.

Man, I followed Teddy Covers for his insider tips on betting a couple years ago.  He was mostly terrible, at least with his free bets.  But his free bets were so bad it gave me zero inspiration to open my wallet.  But I do believe Teddy is a Michigan alum, if I am not mistaken.

I get that Shea is the safest qb to play currently playing the not  to not lose style football. We need some energy injected into that position somehow

If I had a nickel for every sports media pundit that thought Michigan will get punked on Saturday night.  The public is heavy on PSU, for all the right reasons.  The spread tells that story.  I feel like we have a second and a third gear in this team that hasn't been engaged.
