Volleyball blocks Buckeyes in front of 8,117; goes 2-0 on weekend

After an 0-2 B1G start that included ugly losses to #1 Minnesota and #5 Wisconsin last week, #23 Michigan looked to rebound this weekend with their B1G home opener.

And what a home opener it was.

Michigan took on Ohio State on Friday. But it wasn't at Cliff Keen Arena.

It was at Crisler Center. A Block the Buckeyes event was called, and Michigan fans showed up en masse to shatter the Michigan Volleyball home match attendance record with 8,117 fans cramming into Crisler.

They even had to un-curtain 6 sections in the upper bowl to fit everyone. It was truly an amazing atmosphere. He's a photo I took when I arrived. I got there a little late because I was at Field Hockey's 2OT massive win across the parking lot which obviously went over its expected endtime.

Michigan took the first set fairly easily, 25-15.

Michigan took the 2nd set, 25-20 and took a 2-0 lead into intermission.

OSU responded in the 3rd set and led for almost the entirety, taking it set 3 25-22. Michigan went down quickly in set 4, but the Wolverines stormed back.

Feeding off of the crowd's energy and noise level, Michigan came back from down 17-11, but Michigan rallied for 7 straight points to tie it up 17-17 and took the lead for good, going up 19-18 on a Carly Skjodt kill.

Skjodt and Adeja Lambert led The Team in kills at 14 apiece. Claire Kieffer-Wright had 9 blocks.

Michigan would go onto win the set, 25-22. And take the match 3-1. Michigan's 4th straight win over Ohio State.

Saturday night was back at Cliff Keen Arena against a Maryland team that has major imrpovements in the last year, starting 12-3 this season.

Michigan and Maryland split the first two sets, with both teams winning by 25-19 scores. The Wolverines came out from intermission and torched Maryland in set 3, 25-15.

The Wolverines took set 4, 25-21 and the match, 3-1.

Michigan is now 12-4 and 2-2 in the B1G.

8 of Michigan's 12 wins have come at home. However, we are 1-4 in road matches this year. We'll look to better that stat on Wednesday night when Michigan travels to Iowa for an 8pm match.

some photos I took Friday night at Crisler-

Mo Hurst, Jon Runyan, Jr. and Tyrone Wheatley, Jr. Also seen but not pictured were MBB team members MAAR, Charles Matthews, Ibi Watson, Jordan Poole, Jon Teske and Austin Davis. As well as WBB's Hallie Thome, Nicole Munger and Jillian Dunston.

Had the pleasure of watching this on Friday night instead of the super boring Miami/Duke and Nebraska/Illinois games; did not disappoint!

Looked like an incredible atmosphere and always nice to get rivalry wins.
