Veterans' Day!

Submitted by M Ascending on
I love that Michigan honors a Veteran of the Week at each football game. That is always a highlight of the day. Please, let's all join in honoring our vets for their service, their commitment, and their sacrifice. Thank you to you all, and Go Blue!

Thank you Mgo men and women for your service. I also wanted to say, I hope this divided nation can slowly mend itself back together. Appreciation for those who serve should be something, I think, we all can agree on.

If I remember my Pysch 101... according to Maslow's Hierarchy the sacrifices for our country that individuals like our Veterans have done would be the base of the pyrmaid and the pinnacle of the pyrmaid would be Michigan Football.

Thank you Veterans for allowing us to enjoy Michigan Football!

Threads like these roll around every so often and I'm always pleasantly surprised at how many veterans inhabit these boards.  I really should stop being surprised since it happens several times a year.  Happy Veterans' Day, fellow vets!

I hate OSU as much as anyone but being a vet did you see what T Pryor did last night? Shook the hand of every vet on the field. Thank you for that it meens a ton even to a old guy just watching a game.

It seems that veterans and active military can easily be taken for granted. Just know, there are a lot of people that truly appreciate your service. Today is your day, thank you!

Really?  You cannot turn off the trolling for 5 seconds?

Besides, your contempt is misplaced.  It's the politicians whom are responsible for this... NOT the average Joe or Jane Doe following orders.

don't see how that's trolling. fact is we spend more than the rest of the world combined, yet our military is a "disaster"? either that's a lie, or the people running it are doing a piss poor job. my feeling is the former, as i have great respect for those fighting our battles.

According to 2015 numbers, defense accounted for 16% of Federal spending.  I'll give you it's higher when accounting for classified programs discussed in closed sessions of Congress.

By way of comparison, Heath was 28% and Social Security was 25%.

But hey, why let facts get in the way of your good story.

I don't want to get into the politics of it either.  From my humble position, over the past few years the military has promoted O-6s and above who are less warriors and more politically correct.  The warriors who were great leaders and/or with combat experience have been pushed aside if they didn't tow the line.

That's why I got out... the politics of it all.  I couldn't focus on the mission and take care of my troops -- I had to do a bunch of ass kissing and micromangement and that's simply not my style.

Now I'm not advocating we should be a military run force.  The US should always be a civilian run force.  That's what keeps us from becoming a banana republic or something like Thailand.  But when those civilians have open contempt for service, dodged serving themselves, and want to turn the military into some kind social experiment -- something is wrong.  Do you really think ISIL for example gives a crap about "triggers" and "microagressions" when they are shooting at us?

Google Bill McRaven's (4 star SEAL) commencement speech at University of Texas.

Then Google his op ed to the Tampa Tribune about some current state stuff.
