Vanderbilt TE dead of cancer at 21
Puts much of the absurdity of the season into perspective. Young man noticed lumps last fall, dead ~1 year later. Heartbreaking.

I didn't know you could even get melanoma at such a young age. That's just gut wrenching.

My wife is a dermatologist and she has found melanoma on the bottom of a pre-teens feet.

Yikes. My dad is a melanoma survivor. He had it growing on his forehead for a couple of years before it was finally diagnosed. Scary stuff.

Joe Roth. QB for Cal. 1977.

What? I can't even imagine how that's possible. Scary stuff, wear sunscreen.

Just heartbreaking for a kid like this to have his life taken away from him.

Awful.

I’m sure Dave Portnoy won’t get this thread. What a dumbass.

Just breaks my heart to read of this young man's passing.

Really reminds us that this is just a game. Nothing more.
Hope his family finds peace in his passing.

Loss of words ...sad story.

Very sad. Melanoma might be the most dangerous form of cancer. It spreads like wildfire once it gets beneath the skin. It’s a good idea to see a dermatologist annually even if you’re young. It’s also a good idea to check your skin for changes on a monthly basis.

+1 for a good idea, my wife has very fair skin has been seeing one annually since her teens. She asked me to go as well, like most men I try to avoid doctors as much as possible but I finally broke down and went. It's an easy visit and well worth it. Plus happy wife happy life!

Very sad. It's too bad the medical industry is the way it is. I hope there are some sort of changes in the next decade. Too many people making too much money that don't want to save lives. That's why I say sometimes our civilization has a long way to go.

It’s not doctors- it’s the pharmaceutical companies and more health insurance companies. I’m a doctor and they try and dictate what you can and cannot use. Why is it that you can buy a drug in Mexico or Asia for 20.00 on a shelf but in the US it’s 300.00 but it’s not covered by the insurance companies. Doctors make no money cause insurance reimbursement goes down and cost to practice goes up that some are going bankrupt. Don’t let the TV doctors who drive a BMW fool you. All the young doctors are struggling to pay back all the debt we incurred to help people.

Rest in peace, fellow Commodore.

This is the second Vanderbilt student to pass away from cancer in the last two weeks.
RIP fellow Commodores.

Brutal. A reminder of how blessed the vast majority of us on this board are despite the fact that we pout like small school children.

Fuck cancer.

You really feel for his parents and the rest of his family as well as the young man. It feels especially unfair when it’s one so young.
