UM crowd at College World Series Finals
Just curious what the expectations are for the crowd at the final games starting tomorrow. Since this is the first time UM has been in the finals in decades, I would expect a good amount of support in Omaha from our contingent. However, Vanderbilt is certainly more of a "baseball school" than UM traditionally and they probably show up well for this, too.
I did not see what the crowd was for their game against Louisville, but it looked like there was more red than blue in the stands for our last game against Texas Tech. Considering that Omaha is a pretty neutral location too (and remote-ish), and this is in the heart of vacation season for many, it's hard to say who shows up stronger to cheer on their team.
Also curious how many MGoBloggers are going and what else they plan to do in Omaha - I'm not even sure what else is there.
Two words. Big and loud. Alumni are everywhere.
I won't be there, however.
Will we have more there than Vandy though? I don't know, but my gut says maybe.
EQ, that's okay as long as you send the rest of the quad in your place.
You should get out more, OP---didn't you know Michigan is now a Baseball school?
Which is why I added "traditionally" in there - of course we're a baseball school NOW (until we finally Fire Bakich like everyone keeps saying we should), but it's always been eclipsed by other sports before then. Not sure this is true for Vandy.
I'll be there. CWS is a bucket list item for me as I am quite certain it is for many of you. So....when UM made it to the Omaha, I had to make plans to attend.
Looking forward to the Baseball Village and drinking local beers!
Go Blue!
I'm betting we will have at least 3 fans there.
Omaha Zoo is fantastic. 2nd in U.S only behind San Diego in my opinion.
Great restaurants dtown.
If you’re into Axe Murder mysteries, take a 1 hr drive to Villisca, IA and take a tour of the famous house. They are open everyday but Monday’s.
You're spot on, the zoo is awesome. The indoor safari is the probably best single exhibit I have ever been through. Definitely need to plan on spending a day at the zoo if you’re going. Other than that it’s pretty bland, not a whole lot to do besides eat food and drink.
What else is there? The Strategic Air Command. Wonder if that can be seen as a positive metaphor...
I live in town and have been going to the Michigan games. As far as the red in the crowd you have Texas Tech fans, Nebraska fans, also fans of other teams that come in town just attend all of the games. So your seeing Louisville, Arkansas fans. So we look out numbered. I have not seen that many Vandy fans compared to the other teams and we should outnumber them. I think it's just a small fanbase, everyone in Tennessee is a Vol fan.
Where in town would someone likely find hookers?
(asking for lots of MGoFriends)
Hookers? My guess is council bluffs ?, if you can settle for strippers the spearmint rhino isnt far.
HAA!!! For those that don't know, Council Bluff's, IA is on the other side of the river from Omaha! This was a good crack at Iowa!!!
Wow, Hookers, strippers, a zoo and Crack??
Im down for that party !
Thanks, CJK5H, for cleaning up Omaha.
Allegedly.

Vandy has the Northwestern problem. Their fan base is basically limited to alumni and children of alumni. No one grows up a Vandy fan just because they live there.
Seemed like Vandy had a big crowd when the took the lead against L'Ville the other night. But I do think Michigan will get a large section of the local crowd because B1G and new. I'll say one thing for the Nebraska fans (of which number 100% in Omaha) - they are loyal. And they don't have the traditional hate of all things Michigan like a lot of the B1G does. I doubt anyone in Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Iowa, and 1/3 of Michigan would be pulling for Michigan in the next few days if the series were elsewhere!
Everyone I’ve come across from other fan bases have jumped on the Michigan bandwagon. Nebraska and Iowa fans are rooting for Michigan because of the Big Ten. All the other SEC fans (outside of Vanderbilt) that are still milling around are rooting for the Wolverines because they know this run has been special and we’re all watching history being made.
I can’t wait to watch tomorrow night’s game. Going to be a classic. Go Blue!
It feels weird to have other fanbase be a pro-Michigan fans because normally, they're anti-Michigan, but the fact that Michigan is kind of like a mid-major school in the sense that they're not a traditional powerhouse and the conference is regarded as a mid-major school. In today's climate where the powerhouse schools are all reside in the West Coast and the South, the fans just want to see team north from Mason-Dixon line to do well especially the B10 fans because it boost the conference reputation.
I assume 75% Michigan fans because that’s what we do.
Bust out the vuvuzelas!
I’ll watch it on mute if that’s the case
