Not much difference in the top 25 between this and AP - but interesting to see the AP has USC at #29 (out of 42 receiving votes) yet the coaches give them no votes at all.

Looks like PAC-12 isn't in the coaches' poll (Oregon also missing)
September 27th, 2020 at 4:16 PM ^
Wow! Getting better already. #23 earlier, now #21.
Only a few more polls, and UM would be in the top ten.

Pfff... and people said Kevin Warren didn't know what he was doing. This is all a Delaney-esque scheme to keep the Big Ten teams ranked late into the season.

Still ahead of Army. {fist pump}
Hard to believe we almost lost to a team that went 5-8 last year and got beat up by Tulane.
September 27th, 2020 at 4:40 PM ^
Who cares? That was last season.
Just pointless negativity.

Eh not really. There's lots of reasons for optimism in this twisted 2020 season, but it's worth noting that this current team, now minus some significant NFL and NFL-caliber talent, struggled mightily with those players on the roster last year against a number of teams including a not-very-good army squad. Explains at least in part why we're ranked where we are. So-so results last year, minus some significant talent, plus an entirely unproven QB and mostly new O-Line. Hope for the best, but there's reasons we're not a top-ten team like OSU and PSU.

When it comes to players who haven’t seen the field yet, the “those same players were on the roster last year” argument isn’t a sound one. In a lot of cases, you may be talking about guys who are more promising than the people on the field but just need time to fill out or figure things out.
Take McGrone. In 2018, as a true FR, he didn’t even play the four RS-permitted games. In 2019, by the “he was on the roster last year” rationale, you’d presume he was well behind not only Ross but also Gil. As it turns out, he causes Ross to move and Gil to transfer.

Mullen seems like a great coach.

#21 and Minnesota dropped out! This poll, any poll right now is a joke...for obvious reasons.
September 27th, 2020 at 4:54 PM ^
A joke, and no one's sure what the punch line is.
September 27th, 2020 at 4:51 PM ^
meh... doesn't seem that out of whack. New starting QB, 4 new starters on the OLine. Collins currently opting out, and Mayfield hasn't been reinstated yet as far as i know.
Too questions with this team that can't be answered before actually seeing them play a game.

Somehow rankings got even more pointless than they are every other year.
September 27th, 2020 at 5:26 PM ^
Early polls are dumb any year. They are especially dumb this year.
September 27th, 2020 at 5:38 PM ^
Texas, Okla, Ok St and Tennessee suck!
September 27th, 2020 at 6:57 PM ^
Cincinnati and UCF ahead of us? I guess the coaches don't know what's coming this year. Milton for Heisman.
September 27th, 2020 at 7:49 PM ^
At least in September or October.
September 27th, 2020 at 7:40 PM ^
We just need to lie in the weeds....and wait.
September 27th, 2020 at 10:32 PM ^
This is bad news.......I had us ranked 20th.
September 28th, 2020 at 10:05 AM ^
Yay, we made it, ranked in the top 25.
September 28th, 2020 at 11:20 AM ^
Minnesota not being in the top 25 kinda hurts the hype for an inevitably brutal opening road game that is going to be
September 28th, 2020 at 11:26 AM ^
It doesn't mean anything until Michigan plays it's first game, some for any B1G team that is ranked.
It is nice to see LSU and Oklahoma lose and fall in the rankings.
September 28th, 2020 at 12:20 PM ^
Probably about right? Maybe? At least we're not grossly overranked as we have been many a time in the past.
