Not much difference in the top 25 between this and AP - but interesting to see the AP has USC at #29 (out of 42 receiving votes) yet the coaches give them no votes at all.

Eh not really.  There's lots of reasons for optimism in this twisted 2020 season, but it's worth noting that this current team, now minus some significant NFL and NFL-caliber talent, struggled mightily with those players on the roster last year against a number of teams including a not-very-good army squad. Explains at least in part why we're ranked where we are. So-so results last year, minus some significant talent, plus an entirely unproven QB and mostly new O-Line. Hope for the best, but there's reasons we're not a top-ten team like OSU and PSU.

When it comes to players who haven’t seen the field yet, the “those same players were on the roster last year” argument isn’t a sound one. In a lot of cases, you may be talking about guys who are more promising than the people on the field but just need time to fill out or figure things out.

Take McGrone. In 2018, as a true FR, he didn’t even play the four RS-permitted games. In 2019, by the “he was on the roster last year” rationale, you’d presume he was well behind not only Ross but also Gil. As it turns out, he causes Ross to move and Gil to transfer.

meh... doesn't seem that out of whack. New starting QB, 4 new starters on the OLine. Collins currently opting out, and Mayfield hasn't been reinstated yet as far as i know.

Too questions with this team that can't be answered before actually seeing them play a game.

Cincinnati and UCF ahead of us?   I guess the coaches don't know what's coming this year.    Milton for Heisman.

It doesn't mean anything until Michigan plays it's first game, some for any B1G team that is ranked.

It is nice to see LSU and Oklahoma lose and fall in the rankings.
