UC Board of Regents met today to consider blocking UCLA BigTent move

Much of the same old discussion, but today's meeting focused on a letter from the Pac 12 commissioner, arguing that UCLA didn't understand how much it would cost, AND that it would hurt student-athletes heads, AND it would hurt the climate.

No firm response from the Board or UCLA, only that they're discussing things again / still.

The article did hint that the board members (and Governor Newsom) are mainly pissed they were kept in the dark, and that they'll ultimately allow UCLA to join the Big Ten but diminish the leeway they'd given chancellors of the various UC campuses.

So if this move is blocked altogether, what then? Does USC just come by itself, do they hang back in the Pac-12, or does the B1G scramble to try finding another partner like Stanford, Oregon or Washington to come along with USC?

And then I'm also wondering if the Big Ten has any legal grounds to sue UC if this is blocked. I'm not a legal expert by any stretch so I wouldn't have a clue, but it seems like there's a lot of moving parts here.

They won't have to "scramble."  All twelve PAC members have approached The B1G about invitations to join.  In the coming weeks expect more expansion and additional media deals for The B1G.

As for UC's liability for queering the proposed multi-billion dollar media deals, I wish I knew.  That is a question for lawyers, but I hope somebody in Berkeley raises it.
