Travis Walton denies allegations... victim comments on ESPN story

Submitted by blahblahblahh on

Not sure if this is thread-worthy, but I found this interesting. Since there isn't another thread on Walton's statement today, I figured it might be worth posting.

As you guys probably saw, Walton denied both allegations with a written statement today. I was looking through the comments on ESPN and saw that the victim Ashley Thompson actually commented on the article, saying, "It was plead down because Tom Izzo runs East Lansing, period."

Insane that this girl had a documented concussion and nothing came of this.

I'm not a Twitter person, but if you are it might be worth passing this screencap on to the Twittersphere, maybe tagging some reporters or something.

"No, I never threw a drink at him. Wish I had the oppourtunity but I was unconscious on the floor. I told him to f**** off when he interuppted a conversation with a friend and he hit me twice. The interview they aired (which took 6 hours and they showed 2 minutes of) didn't show the part where I was talking to a friend about another mutual friend who had died in a drunk driving accident exactly 6 months prior. We were out memorializing his life and were talking about him when Walton interrupted me during this sensitive conversation and was pissed when I asked him nicely the first time to give me a minute. When I didn't know who he was he got very angry, to which I responded with my slightly tackless remark that set off the first punch. I tried to reach over this big round bar table to attempt to hit him back but didn't have the reach and that's when he got me the second time which knocked me out. I fell back off my bar stool onto my head (causing the concussion) and he pushed so hard forward with his whole body during the 2nd punch he knocked the table over on top of me. Thats's what lead to the cuts noted in the hopsital report from the broken glasses and abdominal bruising from the heavy table hitting me. I don't remember falling but woke up a few minutes later and the bouncers had escorted him out the back door before my friends could even reach him. He also didn't put that new fabrication about the thrown drink in his original statement to the police or in the phone interview with the ESPN reporter that interviewed me. He made that up today. I can understand his motivation for lying about this to keep his job/name in tact but I, in turn, have no reason to dishonest. I reported the incident when it happened, not after media attention, and it was dismissed due to coercion between msu and the east lansing police dept. I only have criticism and unneeded attention to gain from this while I'm busy working on my masters degree. I let this go and moved on with my life 8 years ago after the prosecutor plead down to littering and not a single attorney in the city would touch the case for a civil suit. I was randomly contacted by ESPN about 4 months ago to give an interview because they happened to come across my police report when investigating other msu scandals including the Walton rape and the gymnastics coach. For the record, I have also not received, nor would take, any compensation for my interview. Just wanted to be a voice for other victims to feel safe to come forward and end this culture of invincibility that plagues both professional and collegiate sports."

But the RCMB told me that ESPN only now started doing this for ratings due to all the Nassar attention in the past few weeks...

Very interesting she's active in those comment section.  Someone doesn't believe her and she replied:

Haha yeah, its actually me. Just wanted to see what people were saying about the whole thing. You can compare my facebook pics with my espn interview. Just for proof, the original East Lansing incident report is #10-20272, you can look it up because arrest records are a matter of public record. If I could post pictures to this feed I would upload it for you.

It definitely doesn't look like a fake facebook profile when you look at it.

So all these women are just a bunch of liars seeking some sort of publicity. This whole thing is pretty sick and damning. No culture of sexual assaults. Sounds like they’re believing their own lies

It's that or admit what the rest of the world is already convinced of: The two greatest coaches in school history were win at all cost types with sketchy characters. Willing to put program image over people.

This is all a massive blow to the self image of their sports fans. Success in two sports and beating Michigan is the core of that self image.

They'll blindly believe anything remotely positive at this point. And suspend common sense and logic.

The alternative stains one of the things they love the most. Spartans Will, Mr. March, 60 Minutes of Unnecessary Roughness, etc. All phony.

The funny part is the only people they are fooling is themselves. The rest of the world knows the score here. We all know the chances of this all being a big witch hunt or that these two guys will give reasonable, valid explanation for these decisions are remote.

With several eye witness statements confirming the victim's story, travis apparently likes digging.   Keep on digging dude, the hole only gets deeper.

Thanks. What a piece of shit spartan that liar Walton is. Admitted to getting in a confrontation with her but denies hitting her in spite of other witnesses and physical evidence to the contrary. The officer didn't believe him. I'll be interesting to see what T.j. Duckett's statement says. I assumed it'd be someone with a motive to lie and protect another player. Her statements in the espn comments are very close to what is shown here.
