Tonight's rooting interests
So today was definitely a bit stressful for my taste, but it has certainly been a pretty promising day for our playoff hopes. If we're able to find some way to win out, a ND loss seems like the only thing standing between us and a probable playoff spot. Obviously this whole scenario would require Michigan to win out. (which would require being significantly better than today)
The Good
Standford - Stanford loss was definitely the biggest positive for our slightly rational playoff rooting interests. This essentially leaves Utah as the Pac 12's only playoff hope.
LSU - LSU getting blown out is also a big deal. LSU would have likely gotten in over a 2 loss B1G champ.
The In-Progress
Utah- Utah is currently losing by 10 to Arizona. If Rich Rod is able to keep rolling the PAC 12 should be eliminated from playoff contention.
Baylor-Oklahoma- These rooting interests get a little tricky. I'm not too worried about 2 Big12 teams getting in, so I'm thinking cheer for whoever you want. (could be wrong about this though)
Future Rooting
Stanford over ND- Seemingly the most imporant piece for getting in.
OSU over MSU- If you don't know why you're probably living under a rock. Congraduations on your under rock internet connection.
Big 12 canibalization- If everyone has at least 1 loss we might give ourself a bit more cushion.
So yeah... these implausable playoff scenarios have quickly become.... reasonable?
edit: Can't spell. Congradz to me.

Its a tiebreaker. People not all in the playoff race are nuts. We have a chance to be in the top 10 this week with an opportunity to KO two teams in front of us.
We have the best coach and best qb in the country. Michigan in the playoffs? Get used to it.

yes if your rooting for recruiting interests over playoff interests.

Neither Georgia nor Auburn are anywhere near the playoffs.
So one could very easily root for results that help with recruiting AND results that help with playoffs.
And for the record, the Georgia/Auburn game was not exactly tire fire, but definitely cripple fight.

I think you have to pull for Oklahoma here. They already have one loss and still have games against TCU and Ok St left, which they are certainly capable of losing one if not both of them.
November 14th, 2015 at 11:42 PM ^
You have to root for Baylor to lose AGAIN.
That's why it's best to hope Baylor wins out.
A 1 loss baylor team with one loss in this game is going to get the nod over Michigan.
November 14th, 2015 at 11:44 PM ^
They might lose by double digits at home near end of the season. This game might kill them. When is a big factor.
November 14th, 2015 at 11:47 PM ^
A) Although likely, I'm not so sure that a one loss Baylor team gets in over a two-loss conference champion michigan team coming off of two top five wins.
B) Baylor still has Ok St, TCU, and texas to go. Very possible they drop another as well.

Michigan beats PSU > OSU > IOWA
Stanford beats ND.
Those two lines happen and we're in. Write that in stone.

BTW, a recent glance at ND's schedule suggests theyre the fraudiest of frauds.
I guess Navy is ranked. They won that game against NAVY. And Temple. And oh yea they made things interesting against Clemson. The Georgia Tech loss looked pretty good even if GT proceeded to lose 7 of 8...
Oye, I hope Stanford doesn't pack it in because they should blow up ND at home. ND has no business being in the playoff discusion.
November 15th, 2015 at 12:13 AM ^
how it's calibrated but ND has the #1 SOS in the fei rankings.
November 15th, 2015 at 12:46 AM ^
ND has played many many mediocre to good teams, but only one cupcake (UMass). If they lose to Stanford, their best wins will be Navy and Temple, and there is no way 2-loss ND gets in ahead of 2-loss Michigan.
