TomVH: DB Blake Countess Offered

Submitted by TomVH on

Maryland defensive back Blake Countess (5'10", 171 lbs, 4 Star) was offered by Michigan today. This via his twitter feed:

Good Day, Momma always said good things come to those who wait. Got a call today from Michigan.#offered

I'll have more on him in the weekly update, but here's his highlight video as well.

Maryland isn't a hot recruiting area, and most choose ACC schools or Penn State.  However with our needs I figured someone would've noticed him and every other 4 or 5 star defensive back in the country and offerered them.

Please?

Asked this in another thread but it got lost in the shuffle (and I don't want to make a new thread):

I know you speak regularly with current players and their families.  Do you have any additional insight into what's going on on the defensive side of the ball this year?  If the info is sensitive for some reason, a vague "yeah, but you'll find out later" will suffice.  Thanks as always for the solid info.

Tom, we are all addicts and you tease us with "later"!?   Another sleepless night pondering what Angry Michigan Hating God has in store for us next.

I don't suppose the news about the defense will be that Charles Woodson has been granted another year of eligibility and will be starting for us tomorrow!?

Is anyone else starting to feel a little bad for Daren Kitchen? This kid has been waiting forever to get an offer, yes he is lower rated but he obviously wants to bleed maize and blue. I just don't like seeing kids keep getting placed in front of this kid on the priority list.

I was thinking the same thing.  I know the coaches want to get higher-rated kids, but at the rate DBs seem to be dropping at UM, having depth will never hurt.  I'm sure the coaches are still in touch and maybe he'll be hearing soon.

We still have commitments from Brown (althought it might not last) and Hollowell. Dallas Crawford has Michigan out front, as does Countess (seemingly). 3/4 cornerbacks is already a lot for a class, sadly I don't think Kitchen's going to get his offer, unless the coaches think he has value at safety.

No, I don't feel bad for him.  Because he's not very good and we have enough of those kinds of guys on the roster.  We already have two mediocre cornerbacks committed in this class.  Why add another mediocre cornerback?  Let's go after the big boys right now.

with this logic they should just recruit me...ill bleed maize and blue all day for you.....you don't like seeing kids like this getting placed in front of daren kitchen on the priority list because he's better? makes perfect sense...

No they shouldn't just recruit you. If you have offers from programs like Nebraska and Stanford, like Kitchen does, then maybe you'd be worth the effort. All jokes aside, it is not like this kid is some sub par talent. Kitchen has decent size and is a natural corner. He has multiple BCS offers still lists Michigan ahead of them all.

I saw this guy when they played St. X on ESPN earlier in the year and was really impressed. Maybe someone can comfirm this but I'm pretty sure Good Counsel has a pretty solid junior db on their team too.

he seems too athletic to play DB for UM.  Tom, any possession receivers out there we can offer to play DB?   That type of player would be a better fit for UM's attack style defense.
