TomVH: Chris Bryant Update
I usually save a lot of these posts for the Weekly Update, but I'm trying to give people something else to read other than bad news and coaching rumors.
4 star Illinois OL Chris Bryant has scheduled his press conference to announce his decision on January 21st. It's likely down to Michigan, Ohio State, and Arizona.
The coaching uncertainty has played into things for Chris, but at one point Stanford was in the mix and one of his top schools if that means anything. Ohio State has four offensive linemen committed already, and could potentially land Glenville OL Aundrey Walker. They haven't offered yet, but have told Chris they may offer after break. That seems odd, but who knows.

We made it passed the Mayan calendar it's all good.

Well one problem is that the Dec. 21st, 2012 conversion is almost certainly wrong. The bad news is, the Mayan Calendar most likely ended 50 to 100 years ago...so the world already ended...we must be living in a fake existence. :-)
Anyways, we don't really know if their calendar "ends" or just restarts.

The Matrix was to let us know. Damn it, why didn't I pay attention!

I thought the calender underestimated time, such in that we have 50-100 years left. Oh God, we're all dead.

As always, thanks for the info, Tom. I like the look of this kid.

Will we find out about the silent commits after they commit or have they already committed?

Next time you come to Mt. Pleasant the drinks are on me. Keep up the great work.

I'm a Marty's and Blackstone guy, so I'm a cheap buy.

my poor college student wallet thanks you

I went to CMU for a couple of years..went to Homecoming this year; the Pub has changed dramatically (not a dive anymore). Blackstone was packed, as usual, with most of the crowd walking around with small tubs of draft beer. Never been to Marty's...

I could go for a Bird burger right about now.

Nice effort with the Avatar but, you should have really used the body of a Marine Corps. Drill Instructor over and Army Drill Sergeant.

Wondering if it's more than just whether or not RR stays...but as you've said the 'uncertainty' of who the next coach may be...is this a distinction in the minds of some of these recruits?

Thanks for the info TVH - much appreciated.
Do we have any chance with the Glenville kid - if OSU doesn't offer?
December 31st, 2010 at 12:45 AM ^
Sorry, I probably worded that poorly. Aundrey Walker from Glenville has an OSU offer, Chris Bryant doesn't.

Recruits will fall into place.
Thanks for the info Tom.

Problem with a late coaching change from someone outside the program (or the area) is that it undermines 2 recruiting classes. Not only is the current staff working on the 2011 class, they have built relationships with the 2012 class. A new regime would have to try to keep the current commits, finish the 2011 class and work on next years class.

Would love to land this kid, not only because it's always great to get highly ranked O-line help, but his high school QB at Simeon is a junior and could be a big target for next year's class.

How could you forget about Jordan Diamond, 6'6'' 275 lb OT. He came with Chris on a unofficial visit and I ran into them outside the Big House. Bryant was huge and with Diamond's frame he could fill out to be a beast.
December 31st, 2010 at 9:17 PM ^
Yeah, from what I've heard Diamond is a bigger prospect than Bryant and he likes Michigan early. Whether or not we pick up Bryant, Diamond will be one of our biggest OL targets in 2012, if not they biggest.
Obviously getting Bryant will help getting Diamond, even if only slightly.

Foolish mistake by me. Regardless, I would love to see a Chicagoland pipeline develop.

Thanks for the info, I too can't stand the CC threads.

This is a guy I felt all along we'd get. He is right about needing some good news. That starts tomorrow with a W.
December 31st, 2010 at 7:06 AM ^
when the first thing I read are Tom V and There are posts as opposed to a nav bar full of CC's.
Thanks, Tom.

To use a word from coach rod, "Irregardles" (sic) of who the coach is at Michigan next year, who wouldn't want to play for either of these guys? They are passionate coaches. Harbaugh has shown he definitely has the chops to coach and recruit. Coach Rod as well but it might just be that Coach RR just isn't cut to coach in the Big 10.
December 31st, 2010 at 9:15 AM ^
Chris would be a huge pick up. I heard he may be one of the strongest recruits in the nation
December 31st, 2010 at 9:46 AM ^
Tom, thanks for your post. I have a quick question for you. It looks like we have 3 other OL already committed. Do we definitely want to get 4 in this class? I assume yes. So, are we in it for any other OL recruits? As a backup to Chris. You didn't have any posed on your weekly update last week. I really hope we get him but I was just wondering if there was a backup plan.
December 31st, 2010 at 10:30 AM ^
I think Tom or Tim have mentioned that James Elliot from Florida is a back up option at OL.
December 31st, 2010 at 10:43 AM ^
Thanks! I must have missed that.
December 31st, 2010 at 10:39 AM ^
Hopefully another doesn't bite the dust due to our coaching situation. I hope DB knows what he's doing.

always love the kids that come to michigan after not getting an offer from ohio state. they play that much better in the big game
