Just watching NC State Vs S. Carolina,  Baylor Vs Wake, etc.

Any reactions at halftime?

I'm watching Stanford vs. Oregon State. Flipping between all of the games though.  Wake is gonna end up putting a thumping on Baylor.  I'll take S. Carolina in the other game.

Nothing too exciting going on tonight, but it sure is cool to see real football again.

 NCST wont score many points this year; surprised Spurrier has not pulled his QB yet.

WF systematically destroying Baylor. Grobe is one of the best in the biz. Deacs have won 20 games the last two seasons. They will get another eight wins this season, then whip a Big East team in a bowl game a few days after Christmas.

Its not on TV, but the UB Bulls are making a statement. They're headed for a first ever winning season at this level. Perhaps more. I'll lay odds that CMU-UB will play for the MAC title in December. But, thats mostly because.....

Miami Ohio looks like dog meat. They were favored in this game! They dont look like the division favorite many have labeled. Color me a lot less concerned about them coming into the Big House next week than I've been most of the summer. That could change again in about 40 hours or so.

My eye is mostly on Stanford-Oregon State. I think the Cardinal will go bowling out of the Pac 10. Like the Las Vegas Bowl or something. The Beavers will take a step back. We're find out a lot tonight. Went to window with Stanford +3, so I'll be up all night watching.

Did you see #44 from Stanford on that late hit on the QB in the first half? That was fucking absurd. If I were Harbaugh that kid wouldn't have played the rest of the game. There is a difference between being physical and leading with your helmet and hitting the QB 2 seconds after he hands the ball off. That kid should've been ejected.

Thats what they were talking about when it happened - I just think it's lame. This isn't 3-4th grade flag football. Why should players not be allowed to show any emotion or fun on the field? A team getting a 1st down and 15 yards or whatever the penalty is after a 3rd down where they were inches from tossing an INT, simply because the DB did some push-ups, seems like the opposite of letting the fucking football plays decide who wins the football game. It's not a contest of who can be more polite.

It's amazing the amount of teams running the spread.....why the fuck can't we run it again? All these scrub teams are running it, and we have the virtual inventor of the damn thing...and yet it's gonna take us 2-3 years to catch on?? Please.

Also, Stanford.......you call that a crowd? Pathetic.

Stanford hasnt had a sell out in that new stadium yet.  The school told the season ticket holders that if they aren't "entertained" by the games this season, they get a refund on their tickets.  The way they are playing tonight, I would think perhaps some people may start showing up really soon.

Washington and Oregon play each other Saturday.

 Cal/Wassau and Stan/ASU next week.

Not sure why they schedule league games that early.....perhaps trying to stoke up a little more interest. I thought this was the most intrguing game on tonight's schedule and maybe it was subconsciously knowing it was a conference grudge match?

Yeah, I watched WF-Baylor, NCState-S Carolina, and now watching the Stanford-OSU game, and most of them are running the zone read option.  Even Baylor moved the ball decently, but their D got torched so it didn't make a difference.  Announcers in Cardinals game even highlighted what the zone read option was when Stanford ran the textbook zone read option for a 12 yard gain and a first down.  I'm pretty sure Michigan will be fine this year; some sloppy games and halves, but in the overall picture, will be much better on offense than last year.

I think I may have even seen some of those zone read teams throw the ball! Gasp! Some actually did it quite compently. Throwing even better than Pat White at times.

Yeah, I dont buy the whole 'lacking players for his system" meme. RR can run his offense with the talent on hand. Now, dont take that to mean we're going to be top shelf on offense. No, there are legit concerns that will hold us back and at times make us look downright ugly. But, I've just never felt that not having a Pat White clone would be the biggest problem.

Not to pile on Jason Forcier, but if he can't beat out Pritchard, I'm not sure he'd improve our situation that much if he were still around.

Eh, honestly I don't know if that's fair to say. Apples and oranges with the types of systems he could thrive in and the type of experience and chemistry he could get with guys here. You may be right, but I don't think it's that simple either.

Harbaugh should be a pretty good coach.  He did a good job at San Diahgo, he's doing a decent job recruiting (that will kick in in a few more years, but why 4 TEs?), and they have more experience.  Aside, he looks like an old man wearing those glasses.  Well, not so much an old man, but definitely like he's out of the NFL.

I kind of feel bad for Catchings in a way, but he should've known to "live for another down" and to not go for the TD (a little selfish, even if it wasn't intentional selfishness). Man that's a terrible way to lose a shot at the win. Harbaugh's team did get lucky there b/c OS could've easily got a TD and a 2pt to tie the way they were rolling.

I'm not going to opine that JF would have started for us this season, but at Stanford he is competing against a guy that started last year for Stanford and understands the system better than JF could.  Here he would have been on a level field with Threet and Sheridan.

The Pac10 has had a conference matchup to start every season since they went to the round robin conference schedule.  You have to remember they play one more conference game than most other schools, so it makes a little sense.  Plus it gets the conference season going early, so hype can build up early.  I can't remember the last time a high quality matchup (two top 25 teams) ever kicked off their schedule though.  They may just take the bottom four teams from the year they schedule (so this year's match ups were the bottom 4 teams from like 3-5 years ago).

Agree with blueseoul that Stanford will be better.  OrSU is a decent team with a really good coach. It will be interesting to see what happens when they play State Penn.

NC State should get better eventually, and O'Brien is a really good coach.  The D played well but seemed to get worn down as the game progressed.  (What happened in the 4th quarter?  Did Spurrier run up the score against the 2nd string D, or did NCSU's D really get worn out? I stopped watching after SC made it 13-0 because I knew that NC State wasn't coming back.)  The problem with SC is that as great as their defense is, they have no QB, which worries me about our own team, unless our QBs actually play well.  SC just seems to have a persistent problem at that position.

NC will emerge as a great state for football though. UNC and NCSU will get better, and I think that WF will be fantastic this year.  Grobe is just a great coach, but he needs to start recruiting better.  I can't wait for Utah.  Go Blue!
