Teterboro, NJ??

Submitted by TheJoker on

Interesting bit that I found in the Daily article regarding Harbaugh's arrival at DTW. The plane was originally headed to Teterboro, NJ and was diverted to DTW. I searched the blog for this place but was only able to find very old posts.

Can anyone shine some light on this?

P.S. not worried about original destination, was just curious.

Aircrew file an IFR (instrument flight rules) flight plan before departure, but can amend it at almost anytime, mid-flight.

One can also take off VFR (visual flight rules), fly around under those flight rules, and then pick up an IFR clearance giving the aircraft ATC handling for the duration of the flight.

Teterboro Airport was used by Jerry Jones in 2002 to conduct his three hour interview with Bill Parcells before Parcells came back to coaching with the Cowboys.  Its small size and proximity to East Rutherford make it a favorite of NFL owners looking to interview New York based candidates.

I came across this on YouTube. Not new thread worthy and not even sure if it has been posted yet. So SIAP but I thought it was an awesome view of how Harbaugh is on the sidelines. He's almost comically animated with his reactions to the game.

A plane can divert at any given time for almost any reason. More than likely it was filed that way so there wouldn't be a bunch of fans waiting to bombard the plane and create a security issue. KTEB is the most popular spot private jets fly into when taking people to NYC. On paper a filed flight plan this would look just like a normal flight.

Fun fact of the day. I flew UVA men's team into KTEB last year for the men's East Regional.

Remember Captain "Sully" and the ditching in the Hudson River? The radio record between him and New York City TRACON indicates that he briefly considered Teterboro's small airport as his emergency landing site, before realizing about 30 seconds later that he had insufficient altitude and had no choice but the Hudson.

I'm just going off what other 320 guys say. I finally got on at a major sitting in a pool. How's B6? I have three buddies who just got on line during the summer. They love it. Then again anything is better than the regionals.

I live about 25 minutes from there. It's the main airport for private jets that belong to bigwigs and stars who stay in NYC. It's like 10 min fron Manhattan.
