Tailgate lot on Brown off Hoover demolished
Advisory for those on here who tailgate at the small lot on 915 Brown St off of Hoover. The lot I’m referring to is across the street from a student apartment complex.
It no longer exists. The houses that once stood on the land along with the two next to it were demolished in the offseason and it’s just a plot of dirt right now. U-M bought the property.
I just found this out this week. This was our spot and many others. John U Bacon used to park his car in the lot and chat with us before heading up to the Stadium.
If you have been displaced by this, come join us in our new old spot: 306 Potter. It’s a grass lot that has port a johns and lights attached to a tree for when it gets dark. Power outlets are available too.

RIP 915 Brown St., you will not be forgotten.

Really sucks ass. Had to be at least a hundred people that tailgated there. And there were multiple indoor, heated/AC bathrooms.

Dude, I used to live at 800 Brown. The land lord was this sweet old lady. But that was 20 years ago, I guess she must have passed on or sold the property.

Question for those who used to park there - if it's a dirt lot, is it still parkable? If nothing else, can it still be used as a tailgating spot in a pinch (at least for now)?
To be clear, I will not be parking there - just asking for someone that might still be thinking about it... (No one in particular, just a hypothetical...)

I took a look at it the other day for myself because I didn’t believe it but no it’s surrounded by one of those orange plastic fences.
August 30th, 2019 at 10:39 AM ^
No, they demolished the houses and it's literally a big mound of dirt right now. There are a couple of the driveways still intact, but I'd imagine they will have construction started in the next 30 days.

Those properties were not purchased by UofM. They were purchased by a developer out of Metro Detroit who is going to build an apartment complex with something like 250 units there.
I'm happy to see it, because it should really liven that area up and make it look a lot better.
August 30th, 2019 at 10:40 AM ^
Must've been told nonsense then by the former lot owner.
I'm sure those apartments will be affordable...?
August 30th, 2019 at 10:52 AM ^
Yes, they will be affordable. For whom they will be affordable is the question you seek an answer to...
August 30th, 2019 at 11:04 AM ^
I was a little high on the number of units, it's 167. Here is some info on the project.
August 30th, 2019 at 10:53 AM ^
I was told it was purchased by this man, Tito Liebowitz.
He's a small-time gun runner and rottweiler fight promoter.

You can’t even get your “ABP” shitpost right anymore.

Don’t write off the Fingerle lot. They cleared all the sheds and have been putting down asphalt so it could be hundreds of spots if they open it up. Mlive had an article about this parcel in the grand scheme of UM development and it might become a dorm replacing Mary Markley. I will go by tonight and see if it looks like Event Parking is taking it over. Stay tuned.
August 30th, 2019 at 11:06 AM ^
Mary Markley to be replaced? That's pure blasphemy.
On second thought, I'll pay big bucks for the right to depress the detonation plunger that destroys Mary Markley.

The ambience of the cinder block walls and crappy windows that had views of medical campus parking lots don’t bring back fond memories Bootlegger? East Quad is the best Quad!
August 30th, 2019 at 1:48 PM ^
Markley had more of an "Escape From Colditz" ambience really....
August 30th, 2019 at 11:15 AM ^
Yeah, I don't think many freshman will shed tears if Markley goes away. Crappy location for Central Campus kids.
August 30th, 2019 at 12:12 PM ^
We had the longest walk and smallest rooms on central campus. And it's a stretch to call it central campus. The hockey puck burgers were C- which was slightly mitigated by the soft serve ice cream machine. Pit parties weren't bad, either.

Is 306 Potter an open tailgate?
August 30th, 2019 at 11:09 AM ^
Yeah. It’s a great spot. $40 and it’s just a 2 minute walk across Main to The Big House. We started going to Brown St. several years ago because there was an incident at Potter that’s since resolved itself.
August 30th, 2019 at 11:16 AM ^
It doesn't look very big, how many cars can get in there?
August 30th, 2019 at 11:19 AM ^
Jack (the lot is called Jack’s lot) packs in cars very tightly so it fits more than you’re probably thinking it does. All the way out to the sidewalk. It’s easy out if that’s your thing too.
Our tailgate party gets there first and we’re always in the back corner because we stay hours after the game ends.

I created a profile strictly for parking questions, as previous choices have sucked and want to have fun before my first night game. Does this lot allow for Silervado 1500s? Also, what time would be good enough to show up? Or, what are some quality options, aside from the golf course or Pioneer?
August 30th, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
I think you should be fine. Ford F-150s usually only get charged for one spot. The big ass 350s take up a lot of space though so he might charge more.
August 30th, 2019 at 12:07 PM ^
Also Ann Arbor is full of road/lane closures. Have fun, guys.
August 30th, 2019 at 1:24 PM ^
No joke. Williams just west of State St. is torn up and closed off. Don't even think about going down Liberty between Stadium to past Seventh - for some stupid reason they decided to start resurfacing it this week. Hoover was still blocked off early in the week after months of reconstruction, but I'd imagine they would have it opened up in some form by today. There's more but I've blocked it all out of my mind.

Is this WD's version of "MGoCamping" a couple years ago by Dennis?
August 30th, 2019 at 1:03 PM ^
I feel absolutely stupid by asking this, but everytime I've gone to a UM game, my parking choices have sucked. Last year, I parked at the driving range and it was a little boring. Given that its a night game for tomorrow night, I am thinking Pioneer or the golf course to park and "tailgate" but what would be a good time to show up to these lots and how much is it to park here?
August 30th, 2019 at 1:42 PM ^
I don't think the golf course opens until Noon for night games. I think the golf course is $40-$50. I've only tailgated there once and will not be going back. Too damn far of a walk compared to what we've got.
We're probably gonna show up at our lot on Potter at 10am even though I don't think Jack will be parking people until Noon. I really don't give a shit, I'll sit in the street if I have to to get our spot.
August 30th, 2019 at 1:21 PM ^
Serious question, WD. I'm bringing my wife up for the Army game. Last year I parked halfway across town. If prefer not to walk that far again. If I get there early enough, how much would you charge for parking at your lot? I apologize if that's not how this works, I've never tailgated at an M game.
August 30th, 2019 at 1:27 PM ^
I'm not sure how far is far for you, but consider parking on the streets in the neighborhood just west of Pioneer on the other side of Seventh. As long as you get to AA early enough, you can find a spot on one of the north/south running streets, and it's a mile or so to the Stadium from there. Best part is it's free. There are a few places too where you can tailgate like the park along Greenview near Scio Church or the church across the street.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:06 PM ^
2nd this. Even if you get there late and the streets are full there are a few houses that will lawn it for you for about $10-20.
August 30th, 2019 at 1:40 PM ^
I don't own the lot, I've just been going there for many years. It's $40 and sometimes the guy charges $50 for big games. It's a 2 minute walk across the street to The Big House from there.
August 30th, 2019 at 2:01 PM ^
WD, how much time before the game do you need to be there before it fills up?
August 30th, 2019 at 4:02 PM ^
3-4pm is when you really will see cars starting to coming in. By 5pm it's a zoo. Gates open at 5:30.
August 30th, 2019 at 5:15 PM ^
Thank you.
August 30th, 2019 at 2:28 PM ^
Just show up anywhere around the stadium at noon, park, and enjoy the 7 hours leading up to game time. Make new friends, drink beer, whatever. The latest I would try to get anywhere is 2-3pm. But noon is where it's at (earlier if you have the reservation).
