Swedish Fishiness [LOCKED]

TIME article: “The Swedish COVID-19 Response Is a Disaster. It Shouldn’t Be a Model for the Rest of the World“ by KELLY BJORKLUND
Basically,
1. Sweden continues to have cases rise.
2. High rate of death per capita.
3. 60% more infection rates in schools than out
4. Three times child ICU rates than neighboring countries.
5. Only 11% of population has been infected, ending this mythical idea of herd mentality
6. Only 13% of seniors who died of Covid were given hospital care
7. Internal ministry conversations about financial worries of a mask mandate/cheaping out on precautions and marketing of it.
Other issues.
[Time to lock this one up. Plenty of time has been allowed for members of the MGoBoard to post their thoughts on the subject matter presented by the OP.
Besides that, though, plenty of MGoUsers have clearly posted that now is the time to put in place the annual football season restrictions on OT posts.
It's time. ---rob f)

Sweden’s approach obviously had some flaws that resulted in a lot of deaths. I read the article though and the broad brush accusatory writing tone reminded me a lot of the “Harbaugh Knew” article posted a couple days ago, where some dots are being connected that probably shouldn’t be. Also the OPs bullets have some issues. For example (but not limited to):
14 kids in Sweden went to the ICU. So while technically a 7x rate of Finland, the statistical significance is questionable, as well as the accuracy of implication in the article that opening schools caused those infections vs general community spread (way more people had Covid in Sweden vs Finland). I actually think the data coming back in the US would support having at least K-8 schools open (I found this NPR podcast very interesting).
Additionally, the science has evolved past the point of concluding that negative antibody test means the person was never infected. A lot of recent work on this (one example shows only 30% of survivors being positive for antibodies)

Apple news? Awesome. Btw, I’ve seen an article drawing the exact opposite conclusion from the same data set/report raising this rash of articles - note the Swedish data report isn’t a peer-reviewed study that draws any conclusions - and the majority of the scientists in the group interpreting and promoting this narrative have about as much authority on this subject as you or I do. You don't go to a heart surgeon to ask about pancreatic cancer.

Let's stick to football/sports shall we! We need another Swede on the hockey team, bonus in that he will likely have the built-in corona antibodies!

FFS - I am tired of all this sanctimonious pontification by politicized Mgobloggers.
I don’t need to hear retreaded hawt takes on COVID. I am perfectly able to read about the pandemic on the CDC site. I can take care of me and mine just fine.
And “Well College Football is spreading the virus” trope is wasted on me.
Maybe it is maybe it isn’t - if you feel strongly send a crossly worded email to the president of the school.
AND THEN BOYCOTT MGOBLOG by discontinuing your fucking visits to the site to show Brian just how tweaked you are.
Nearly everyone is aware of COVID and the protocols that are recommended to avoid it.
Meanwhile, if Michigan is going to play the game I will watch. If not then I won’t.

Covid posters should be banished to East Lansing. Bolivia is too good for them. 7 days out from (finally) game day and we get more of this shit.
Time article lol
On your point 5 - herd mentality is a nice Freudian slip

We’ve beat this to death, and personally attacked one another on this blog for months. I’m done letting this issue divide us. Not taking the bait OP. Go Blue and love y’all.
