Super OT: Let's Talk Season 7 of GoT
Hey man, people are asking who the best Spiderman is, and whether Iron Man was better than Captain America or some shit, so this can't be the most OT thing ever...
Season 7 of Game of Thrones starts in 6 days. The show is now officially well past the books, so it's really all guess work at this point. But they have released titles and descriptions of the first three new episodes:
"Episode #61 - Dragonstone: Jon (Kit Harington) organizes the defense of the North. Cersei (Lena Headey) tries to even the odds. Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) comes home.
Episode #62 - Stormborn: Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) receives an unexpected visitor. Jon (Kit Harington) faces a revolt. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) plans the conquest of Westeros.
Episode #63 - The Queen's Justice: Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) holds court. Cersei (Lena Headey) returns a gift. Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) learns from his mistakes."
So we know in the first new episode, we get something that's been building since the show premiered - Daenerys coming home to Westeros - which should be pretty cool. The episode title of "Dragonstone" implies that this is where she lands and sets up shop, an island just off the coast from King's Landing (the old Baratheon spot, and before that, the original home of the Targaryens. Cersei trying to "even the odds" would seem to imply she is taking steps to build alliances against Daenerys, but with who? She has no friends left in Westeros.
In the second episode, we seem to get some kind of discord in Winterfell (which seems to be conflict between Sansa and Jon, probably inspired by Littlefinger), and Tyrion (seemingly in Westeros too) planning the conquest.
The third new episode description is the most mysterious - Daenerys "holding court" could mean a lot, but probably involves her having a substantial foothold on Westeros (maybe beyond Dragonstone), and meeting with some of the great houses to build alliances. Cersei "returning a gift" would seem to imply direct commuication between she and Daenerys, which should be interesting to say the least. Lastly, Jamie "learning from his mistakes" could mean a lot, but I think it sets the tone for him breaking with his sister, and maybe even plotting against her. She's officially power mad and batshit crazy, and Jamie isn't the villian of old; he's older, wiser and kinder.
What say you all? Discuss please...
I believe the revolt will be because Jon wants to either give the freefolk the lands of the houses that stood with the Boltons or the opposite, he allows the Karstarks et al to remain in their ancestral lands even though they did not keep their oaths. Maybe Lady / Jorah Mormont can help once Sam gets done curing his greyscale (if that happens - the previews seem to suggest that he is being treated by Sam at the Citadel - greyscale arm coming out of a box, Sam in a primitive surgical gown). Could also be Sansa - Petyr so who knows.
I cant remember if this item was ever brought up in the show but in the books this horn was recovered by Euron Greyjoy, the new king of the iron islands. It can supposedly control a dragon (or multiple). Could this possibly be what "evens the odds"? Cant see those two forming an alliance but they are both evil enough and hated enough to be working together.
I'm not expecting the show to introduce Victarion Greyjoy, but that would make things interesting. My guess is that the show Euron is a mix of book Euron and Victarion.
What is hype may never die.
Dude, he'd actually be a One-Handed Kingslaying Queenslaying Sister Fucker!
attempted child-murderer!
Jaime was just helping a young raven learn to fly. He meant well.
...allegedly
I hadn't read the books so I was unaware Jamie's real first name was Craig... thanks for that!
I'm guessing this season will have multiple ninth episodes. Since we're past the books anything is fair game at this point so who the hell knows what's going to happen. Here's what I think may happen:
-I don't know if she'll last long enough for this to happen, but I would love to see some kind of closure between Tyrion and Cersei. They've both despised each other all their lives, and I'd love to see Tyrion get some kind of retribution against her. But more than likely, I'd see Jaime becoming the Queenslayer and killing Cersei to prevent her from annihilating everyone.
-Littlefinger trying to manipulate Sansa against Jon.
-Jon goes north of the wall, once again, to try and unite the remaining wildling tribes against the white walkers.
-Honestly have no idea what Arya will do, since at this point her only motive is revenge. Beyond that she seems to be kind of just wandering around.
-A LOT of people are going to die this season. And I could see even a lot more happening in season 8 once the walkers come. This show is not going to have a "happily ever after" kind of ending.
is key. Magic is the most powerful thing in Westeros, not Dragons, not White Walkers. Melisandre (and possibly Beric) is the most important free agent on the market right now.
Good thing we will see the return of Beric this season. Based on trailers it looks like he is with Jon north of the wall.
that is most likely where The Hound is as well. Which is completely awesome, but would also eliminate the possibility of the Clegane Battle Royale. (Which I actually thought was kind of a reach to begin with, and which also seems completely unnecessary now).
Most recent trailer shows The Hound in a very snowy place (0.59). In the same trailer it looks like The Hound in somewhere in the south (1:22). I guess the possibility is still there, but I'm not going to be disappointed if we don't see it.
If Winter finally arrives, a very snowy place could be almost anywhere.
Jon's going North but it's not to unite any wildlings.
I like the idea of John losing to the White Walkers in the North and then becoming a leader on that side to take over the rest of the map. Jon and the walkers ftw!
Well, there will be eternal winter if nothing else....
This is not happening. All signs point to an eventual marriage between Jon and Daenerys. But then again, you never know with GoT.
Double Post
Shut up, Putin.
but are there awkward silences when all of the characters are humping each other on screen?
Hopefully she's not 5 years old. The Red Wedding alone could scar her for life...
GoT is off topic, here, without being off topic. What I'm saying is so many people like it, so it's not really off topic. I just want to put that out there.
As for the show, it's the best on TV right now and it's not even close. I cannot wait to see the fight to come. The part in the trailer showing Daenerys' army charging with the dragon (who is even bigger now) flying above gave me chills.
Looks like there is going to be lots of fighting this season.
- Jon and his crew north of The Wall.
- We finally get to see the Dothraki in open field combat.
- Grey Worm and the Unsullied attacking Casterly Rock (Tyrion's knowledge of the sewage system will come in hand)
- another awesome looking Naval battle
I'm hoping we finally see Casterly Rock/Lannisport. Two areas of the world that are constantly mentioned but never once seen. But that's a very interesting thought about Tyrion's knowledge of the sewer. The trailers did allude to the Unsullied heading into a cave, or possibly an entrance to the sewers.
"The water never flowed better, and all the shit found its way to the sea."
As much as I would love to take part in this discussion I feel the risk of spoilers is too high. Im only on feast as far as the books are concerned and someone inevitably posts up to date book information in all of these types of threads.
SPOILER ALERT! Don't get too attached...to anyone...ever...
Baratheon.
He's wielding a hammer (his father's weapon of choice) in the wight encirclement scence in T2.
You saw him in the trailer. Though it was very hard to tell. He's there though.
In a way I hope not. Granted, Sansa has every reason to have Littlefinger killed, but got to give credit to the man. He rose from having absolutely nothing to become one of the most powerful men in Westeros. Anytime something calamitous happens in GoT, Littlefinger usually has some sort of hand in making it happen.
My guess is he will not live until the end of the show, but I think he's got a lot more in store before his number is called.
I have read them. No one can say if they are accurate, but man if they are, wow. Don't look these up unless you really, really want to have the season spoiled.
Waiting on The Winds of Winter like:
