Sunday Sparty Schadenfreude

Submitted by WichitanWolverine on

I’m sure they’ll still give us a tough game per usual, but this morning let’s take a moment to reflect on the deliciousness of last night’s sweet Spartan tears.

Thoughts and prayers.

Shame on Dantonio for not making one fucking change after last week.

Fucking higby literally falling over on every play and he is in there.

Warner jus shitting the bed on calls.

Oh and Muffy! Can you find a way to still defend your boyfriend Mark Hollis?

The worst year ever at msu with nassar and Hollis never checked in with his female athletes and he scheduled a fucking 2 in the morning game in the desert.

Jesus Christ. Season is going down the shitter like 2016

No it was a magical herm moment. Those "sacks" were ASU taking a knee to kill the clock until seven seconds were left to kick the fg and win the game.

You are what your record says you are.

If he can consistently get it done by walking around aimlessly, spouting off mindless slogans, then good for him.

His record is what people will care about.  Ultimately, there are no style points that can offset your record.

RichRod would still be here if he was winning big games, no matter who liked or disliked his style.

Recently talked to "someone who knows someone" about the RichRod regime while he was in A2.  I don't believe he was forced out entirely because his on-field record.

We had a large contingent of folks here, (me included) who couldn't understand - after all, improving by 2 wins each year means that next year is 9-3 and undefeated 2 years after that, right?

With what we know now, it's a reasonable assumption that RR was already beginning to show signs of some of the douchebaggery that led to his downfall at Arizona.

So no, a winning RR probably wouldn't have lasted here much longer.

On the field, that 2010 season really nosedived after a promising start.  But I could see how off-field conduct might have given him a short leash.   And it would explain why RR seemed to make a lot of enemies at every stop.

It seems pretty apparent that RR has some notable failings on a personal level, but I'm not buying the idea that they were a significant factor in his firing from Michigan.

If they were, why would Brandon have waited until after the Gator Bowl beat-down to fire him? The gradual improvement in the overall record was illusory—our victories in 2010 included wins over ND recovering from the Weis disaster, Bowling Green, UMass, IU, Illinois, PU, and UConn. Against conference programs with a pulse, we were simply uncompetitive. Few Michigan fans would have complained if RR was fired immediately after the loss to OSU; it's hardly unusual for an interim guy to coach a team's bowl game.

We don't know, Don. I'm sticking by my theory based on what I was told.  As to the timing, well, there are multiple factors that play into a complex process, so I can't draw any conclusions but neither can you, when we're discussing a theory.  Just saying I don't have enough evidence to contradict my theory.

The rest of what you said about gradual improvement being an illusion, that may be 1000% correct, yet it does not mean that his off field issues were not being examined.

Mork’s coaching highlight of the night was calling a timeout with 2 seconds left in the half to give coaches in the press box time to get down to the locker room.

Yes, that actually happened.

It was a good idea actually.  ASU pressbox is a long way from the locker rooms.  Why burn up halftime adjustment-time waiting for coaches to show up when you have an unused time out to spend?

If you want to legitimately criticize him, ask why his team was not prepared to stop the run on the last ASU drive when they had been effortlessly doing it all night.

Arizona State on numerous occassions had WR's running open down the field. Their QB overthrew a bunch of guys. Had they connected on even 2 or 3, ASU wins easily and maybe blows out Sparty.

The good news is that the MSU defense has given up a shitload of yards through the air in the first two games. The bad part is UM's pass game is not as good Sparty's first two opponents. Need to get that going before East Lansing.

I just spent some time reading the MSU blogs...what a hoot. I'm on mobile so couldn't paste, so I'm transcribing.

Two of my favorites:

"Good luck regrouping with these incompetent shitbags in the booth and mentally and physically weak players on the field".

Braylon would be proud!

"And that my friends is what shitting the bed looks like."

Sparty going to be Sparty.

I wouldn’t read too much into them losing this game. This is all part of Sparty’s annual formula.

Play down to the competition in their first game and barely win, lose to ND or whoever their P5 OOC opponent, everyone then thinks this is finally the year when Sparty takes it’s official step back, and then they proceed to win a ton of games in conference by dragging their opponents down to their level and winning ugly games. Everyone from Rutgers to OSU.

We’re still getting their best game when we play them, and I’d still bet on them contending for the conference until they prove otherwise.
