Steve Threet...

Why does everyone hate on Threet? I mean he wasn't the BEST quarterback this season but give the kid some slack. Its Sheridan everyone should hate on. -Threet got us back in the Utah game -Threet did good vs ND, but fumbles from others killed it(and that guy named sheridan killed it) -Threet did good vs PSU until that guy Sheridan ruined it -After the PSU game, Threet was hurt rest of yr His stats weren't the best. But, maybe he over threw the ball so much because he was getting pressured by blitz'. Also, our o-line was unexperienced so he didn't have the best experienced o-line. He didn't play in every game, or many 'full' games. Our record would of been alot different if he was our number 1 qb and didn't get hurt. Hes not a spread quarterback either. He got the bad year out of him and now has the experience. Now he actually has a good qb trying to win the spot from him. This upcoming season I believe Threet will be the number 1 quarterback. With packages coming from Forcier. Each day Forcier will get more experienced and will most likely win the job if hes all hes capable of. Dont say, ahhh, threets the qb we'll suck again. NO, Threets a good qb, hes just not your future heisman qb, hes a good qb in the making.

i'm with Goblue, threet is decent. Could have played better, but guy was a RS freshman, injured, and learning a new system. it's not like he'll get dramatically better, but he did his best in his first year, and it didnt stink.

I don't think there would be near the hate for Threet if Threet actually fit the offense. RR needs a guy that can pick up yards with his feet. He needs to keep the defense honest. Threet is a drop back passer. Unfortunately, last year, Threet wasn't really much of a passer either. How often did he over throw a wide open receiver? Or, not hit the receiver in stride on a screen, which resulted in a loss? Why all the hate on Sheridan. The only truly good game from a qb was from him against Minnesota. He was able to hit his receivers in stride, and pick up yards with his feet to keep drives alive. Yes, Sheridan was awful the rest of the season, but you got to admit he was put in some tough spots. I think everyone is more excited for what Tate can do. He is more of a fit for the offense. He's got an accurate arm and has been groomed to qb since he could walk. The kid's got an amazing character and work ethic. Honestly, there's nothing about the kid that anyone here shouldn't like. Tate WILL be the starter from day 1 and he will flourish in RR's offense. I think Tate said it best when he said, "this offense is tailor-made for me".

or will RR give Forcier the keys when he shows up on campus? I think that Threet can improve on his 51% completion rate and his 9-7 TD-INT ratio and be one of the better down field passers in the big ten. Of course I thought that Feagin would eventually start, or at least throw a pass, sometime this year.

Threet is a spread QB.....he played in a spread in HS. He's not a spread option. I think if he refined his mechanics a bit and got more experience a no huddle pass heavy offense like Oklahoma's would suit his abilities. Not saying he'll be Sam Bradford or win a Heisman.

But Threet's numbers for the season compared favorably, or at least equally, with Mallett's, even though: 1) Mallett was a consensus 5-star QB 2) Mallett was surrounded by Arrington, Long, Hart, Manningham, and an experienced offensive line 3) Threet was surrounded by true freshmen runningbacks for much of the season, an incompetent (to start) and serviceable (at the end) offensive line, a true freshman tight end, and only Mathews at WR. 4) Threet is definitely not a spread option QB 5) Threet was learning his third offensive system in three years. If Threet learns to complete passes to impossibly open wide receivers and can stay healthy, I could see him starting the opener this season. But I still cringe when I think of how many points the team left on the field because of overthrows. Painful.

He didn't really bring them back into the Utah game. He threw a nice pass to Hemingway, but that was a short drive set up by a blocked punt. The other TD was a short field, two 15 yard penalties on Utah, two Threet incompletions, and a McGuffie TD run. That said, I expect Threet 2009 to be a competent B10 QB.

The biggest problem I had with Threet was his inability to hit the screen or the simple wheel route. Even when he did manage to get the ball to his receiver, it was usually a pass that took the WR out of his stride. I think Forcier's advantage will be hitting those passes on a consistent basis, and with some zip. If he can manage that, and not float zeppelins over the middle of the field like Sheridan, he'll probably start early in the season.

Sheridan has no more business starting a game for Michigan than Carrot Top. It's not his fault we had no other QB's. He shouldn't be "hated on" by anybody. Besides that, Sheridan and Threet had the same winning percentage as starters. So if all you're counting is wins, neither one was better than the other.

100% with Magnus...Both Sheridan and Threet busted their asses in a bad situation for Michigan last year. Neither one whined or complained when they were on the bench, and did the best they could with what they had to offer. That's all you can ask of a kid. They're just not overly talented. The only guy deserving of any abuse is a certain WATB who defected to Columbus.

but he really doesn't fit RR's system. He should be better this year with experience, a decent (not great) OL and better WR play. He is working on his mechanics now which were not good. Threet also has a slow release. Tebow improved his mechanics after his first year. It's hard to believe Lefty didn't work with Threet's mechanics. So, there is reason to hope he can be a decent Big 10 QB. But, I expect TF to start sooner rather than later.

Minor and Brown will also make Threet a better QB. Minor didn't get going till PSU and beyond. Threet had TRUE Freshman running backs. No run game, Less quality of Blitz blocking=DEATH. Threet will start next year and be twice as productive.

The dude was hurt yet kept running hard. I feel he left all he could on the field. He has my respect, for sure. It will be interesting to see what another off season and a bit more competition will do to his game. He was not a scrub coming out of high school and its reasonable to assume he will get better on those small things (like misfiring on the wheels and screeens). I think we're certainly 2 games better with him in the lineup without injury this past season. UM beats Toledo and NW. The way those games played out, a healthy Threet gets the job done there. I have not buried this kid in the least. I still think he's got a good future here and in the sport.

I don't think anyone really "hates" Threet you can't blame everything on him really, REALLY young OL, RB situation was a mess with injuries and people playing to early, and FUMBLES. The D didn't help Threets cause much either by playing from behind mostly all season. So with a solid year under his belt and some solid QB competition coming in I think Threet will start the season with some sprinkles of Tate early in the season, and will just have to wait and see how Tate contributes early on

kept them in a lot of games early considering that most teams 1st drive started inside of the 50. think of how many times a team would get the ball around 20 because of a michigan turnover and the D held them to a FG. but you can't expect them to do that through out an entire game. michigans biggest problem was not being able to put two halfs together all season long. there was one game they did it and that was against minny. is any of this threets fault, yes. for simple fact that he couldn't hit wide open WR's when he needed a 1st down. the OL didn't help, and the freshmen running backs didn't help. the entire team sucked not just one or two players.

Seeing that big goofy kid run always made me giggle. I liken it to watching a tee-ball game. Positive results are rare, but when they occur, it's all the more special. After every TD run,I wanted to take him to Dairy Queen.

I absolutely love Threet. That kid has amazing grit. It doesn't matter that he's hurt, he can't play 100%. He's out there gaming, trying to help the team win. Seeing the guy running up the middle and not sliding, taking on linebackers head on, its just exhilarating. You don't necessarily see guys sacrificing themselves (esp QB's). They're trying to protect themselves and keep their careers strong and healthy. But that kid just games. He's got my respect. I wouldn't mind at all seeing him start the year.

Threet is fully capable of running this offense at a high capacity if he improves his accuracy. His decision-making in the passing game was pretty good. His running skills are adequate. He needs to keep the ball a little more often on the option, and he needs to improve his mechanics (and thus his accuracy). I see no reason why he couldn't be the QB on a 10-win team, provided the rest of the team improves with age and experience as well.
