Spring is Here - Tiger Opener Tomorrow - Season Predictions

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

If I'm not mistaken, tomorrow is opening day for the tigers. When I lived downstate that was a fun thing, even when the tigers weren't any good.   Well, looks like those times have returned. Their grapefruit league record was 13-15.  Since last season they jettisoned Ausmus.  Their opening day roster looks like this:

POSITION STARTER 2nd 3rd 4th 5th
Catcher James McCann John Hicks Derek Norris
First Base Miguel Cabrera John Hicks Victor Martinez
Second Base Dixon Machado Alexi Amarista
Third Base Jeimer Candelario Nicholas Castellanos Dixon Machado
Shortstop Jose Iglesias Alexi Amarista Dixon Machado
Left Field Mikie Mahtook JaCoby Jones Jim Adduci
Center Field Leonys Martin JaCoby Jones Victor Reyes
Right Field Nicholas Castellanos Mikie Mahtook Victor Reyes
Designated Hitter Victor Martinez Miguel Cabrera
Starting Pitcher Michael Fulmer Jordan Zimmermann Matthew Boyd Mike Fiers Francisco Liriano
Relief Pitcher Alex Wilson Joe Jimenez Drew VerHagen Blaine Hardy Daniel Stumpf
Closer Shane Greene

I haven't followed them closely other than to know last year started out okay and then went downhill hard and fast, with i think a 64-98 final record.  Yeesh.

Anyway, today's question is/are these:  What are your predictions for the tigers this year, and will you be at opening day (Looks like rain tomorrow)?

so I think they avoid 100 losses but end up in top 5 worst records of the year.  Marlins are going to be ass and run away with top pick.  Cubs win WS over NYY in 6.

don't the tigers kind of have the yankees number, so to speak, this century?  at least in the playoffs you guys have been super hot, only to lose to us each time IIRC.

do you like new yankee stadium, and compare it to the old one.

Cons:

The Tigers will lose 100 games and be utterly unwatchable most of the season

Pros:

This means I will be able to get tickets for less than the cost of a ballpark beer and be able to enjoy the other amenties at CoPa while ignoring the game itself. Mazel!

This will be similar to Tiger seasons of the mid  and late 70s. Some good young players but not enough talent to finish much above being cellar dwellers. It will take several years of rebuilding to become the Tigers of the 82-87 era or 05-15 era.

I’m in Florida right now and had the chance to watch the Tigers play Baltimore a couple weeks ago.  Tigers lost 4-2 and left 17 men on base.

But the best was on a routine ball hit to third base, whoever was playing third base, threw the ball over the head of the second base umpire, who was between 1st and second base instead of throwing to first base.

Someone decided the Tigers spring uniform would be black tops and bottoms so they look like the umpires.

That should sum up the Tigers season pretty well.

Tigers are bad - lose 100-105 games, last in the central

Cubs are good - Win 95-100 games. Win the NL pennant. Win World Series Again. Yu Darvish wins the NL Cy Young.

Yankees win the AL  pennant  (yuck...) lose the WS to cubs in 4-2 fashion. Verlander wins the AL Cy Young.

My predictions:

Victor Martinez will spend roughly 40 days on the DL. He will start using a motorized cart to get to first base when returning off the DL.

Miggy will have some sort of leg/foot pain that he will play with and hobble on throughout the year.

The bullpen will suck

Zimmerman will be on the DL multiple times with arm issues.

Joe Jimenez will be unable to throw strikes and will be the next Bruce Rondon.

Verlander will no-hit the Tigers when the Astros come to town.

They will lose 100 games
