Sounds like our new President is Santa

All signs are pointing to current President of The University of British Columbia Santa Ono will be named the next President of the University of Michigan at tomorrow’s Board of Regents meeting. Here’s a bio:

Smart dude who has been on faculty at Emory, Johns Hopkins and Harvard  He was also the former President of the University of Cincinnati.

Further, apparently Mr. Ono is a big sports guy. He presided over the University of Cincinnati’s climb in sports profile. He often tweeted about UC sporting events and sat in the student section at football and basketball games. Here’s a public article from On3 about his effects on sports at UC.

Welcome to Michigan Mr. Ono. At least he doesn’t have a hard act to follow.

Santa sounds like a cool name. I hope he is a big college football fan? Dear Santa, will you open up the NIL cannon for recruits. We need more 4 and 5 star players.

I saw the title and cringed thinking politics - LOL!  Politics suck!  Thanks for the warm welcome for President Ono.  The sports programs need some support from the top.

If he is a boost to NIL and athletics, in addition to academics, we should have a Santa clause in all future presidents' contracts.  A gift that keeps on giving.

(If someone could do a better version of that joke it would be appreciated.)

Santa Ono is a great choice.  He was President at University of Cincinnati when I got my last degree.  He was very engaged with student activities, not just sports, but he was visible at clubs and other student groups.  He's was very active with promoting the school on social media.  At graduation he kept getting on the mic and telling everyone to use the hashtag they set up to blast twitter with pics from the graduation to "show the world how proud we are of the graduates."

He was successful in changing the culture of UC to a fun and solid educational institution. This is a great choice and I hope he stays around for a long time.  I was sad to see him go when he left UC.

From knowing Cincinnati alums, this is going to be a great hire for the current students. He is the polar opposite of the disconnected university president who sits in the ivory tower and collects fundraising checks.

Coolstorybro alert: I once played in a pickup basketball game with him at the UC arena, along with Corie Blount and one other former player.

Ono was a tryhard but his handle was suspect.
