Rodriguez has yet to graduate a class of his recruits. Until he does, we cannot begin to compare his record of retention with Carr's.

I usually find Spath's articles to be little more that statements of the obvious, like a recent article that the D-Line should be the best group on our D this year--wow, insightful!  This one is actually pretty good.  Good find.

this seems to invoke the laundry list of reasons players have left:

As for Turner, his reasons for leaving (he has not returned interview requests from TheWolverine.com to explain his side of the story) could mirror any of those that have come before him - some understandable (homesickness, no longer the right fit) and the outlandish (wanted a guarantee on playing time, arrested, flunked out of school, tested positive for steroids).

The last one though... am I missing something? McGuffie was homesick, Mallett wasn't the right fit, arguably Clemens was the guarantee on playing time, Feagin and Cissoko had been arrested, several flunked out of college/hs... but that last one... !?

Speaking of Carr, it wasn't like exits never happened under his watch. In fact, 35 Wolverines to have once worn the winged helmet (even if only in preseason camp), from the recruiting classes of 1999-2006, left Ann Arbor before their eligibility had expired (this does not include injured players or those that left for the NFL). That's an average of 4.4 athletes per class.

That's a disturbing statistic. And only players from the 05-06 classes left under RR.

Looks like wagon circling to me.  I hope Rich has moderate success this year, only because it means his job is safe.  Frankly I think its time to blow it up.

PLayers will leave, that is a given. Who cares how many left under Carr vs RR...look at the two coaches records!! Doesn;t that speak volumes? I love the comment I read where are secondary now rivals that of Indianas? WTF? I can;t ever remember a secondary as poor a shape as the one we currently have. NEVER

I get a lot of heat because I am from the mentality that we are Michigan and when we show up to play we should win! Most have dogged me because they point out that our talent is severly lacking. Well, for the first time, I am actually realizing that if we went pound for pound, mano y mano with Indiana(secondary, that is) we might get crushed. Yikes!

On a postive note...if we could somehow get by Purdue, Inidana, and Illionois this year...just those three teams, we could have the best Big ten record we have had in three years!

(in regard to steroids)  And I don't mean to disparage Vinny.  Dude, if you're clean then congrats on being so huge that I think you're juicing.

is unfair for another reason:  Carr continued the system in place with few modifications.  I think it would be hard to say what his stamp on the program might be that distinguished it from what he inherited.  RR implemented a radically different system, including his conditioning program -- wholesale changes.  Not everyone fit.  I am sure everyone knows the story behind "Those Who Stay Will Be Champions."  Bo lost 65 of 140 players in his first fall camp.  Of course times were different then,  but regime change greatly contributed to the high number of departing athletes.

No Truer words have ever been spoken

Those Who Stay Will Be Champions

I wish JT good luck, but those that tough it out will be rewarded for it. I think the team can circle the wagons, use the detractors as motivation and become Champions. If it was easy, it wouldn't taste nearly as sweet.

It's stupid/irresponsible to guess at which player might have tested positive for steroids.

However, it's also stupid/irresponsible to say that somebody tested positive for steroids but not say who it was.

Personally, I think that article by Spath was silly.  At the very least, the headline is misleading because there will be an open cornerback job in 2011 and we don't know if Cullen Christian will be able to fill it.

if not Cullen, one of our current freshman will have to step up and fill it.

I don't know if this was said intentionally or not, but . . . like . . . yeah.  There's really no other choice.  Woolfolk and Rogers will be gone.  JT Floyd will be a redshirt junior.  Every other cornerback will be "one of our current freshman" or from the recruiting class of 2011.  We will be very young at cornerback in 2010 and 2011.

The steroid thing is new to me but I think it is pretty clear why there has been attrition.

It is no doubt "the fur-covered condoms" that Rodriguez has requested from members of the team, and thus, destroyed the family values set forth by his predecessors.

It's the same thing I posted about Turner yesterday when I heard the news. Got to admit I didn't know the Carr vs. RR attrition numbers. I like what RR said today when question was posed on whether JT would possibly return-   He doesn't play for MIchigan.
