This was put in another thread, but probably deserves its own mention. Nick Sheridan: I hereby dub thee "No-Chance Nick". 'cause there ain't no way you're starting another game.

Well, that will depend on preseason practice, I suppose. But if we're at least halfway into the season, I feel like Robinson would've absorbed enough of the playbook to get a shot.

since i cannot post a new topic, i will say it here.... does anyone think that going forward, itll be forcier and denard at qb splitting time, and then gardner ends up at wr ? i heard gardner is a supreme wr, and was better than anyone else at wr at those camps.

No. Most likely Tate or Denard will start for 4 years in a row; Gardner will redshirt his freshman year and will have 2 full seasons as the starter. He'll start getting PT after his redshirt year to get valuable gametime experience. Of course, this all assumes that the QBs stay healthy and no other players step up to become starting QB (Cornelius Jones, future QB recruits in '11 and '12 class).

I hate to sound arguementative but I think by 2010 we will have plenty of WR won't we. That is if the (what is it now 4) guys that are committed stay committed. I don't think we need WRs but what we do need is depth at the QB position. I tend to think that DG stays right where he is.

"I probably am a little bit of the forgotten guy and probably a lot of fans would like to forget about last season and who was associated with that," said Sheridan, referring to the Wolverines' 3-9 record during Rodriguez's first season as coach. "That's fine. I'm not bitter about that. I know what goes on here inside these walls (at Schembechler Hall). I still feel like I'm in the competition. The best guy is going to play -- I'm at peace with that. Getting all the recognition or being proclaimed the favorite isn't important to me. It doesn't change how I'm going to prepare and compete."
At least he understands why we might be hesitant to ever want to see him take another snap. Seems like a good kid; I just wish his arm was as strong as his character.

it's because we're up 38-0 vs. the Domers? First time Nick took the field was the '07 game vs. ND towards the end. I wouldn't mind being reminded of that game and halcyon days of yore

he played "well" enough - but the Gophers did drop or miss several interceptions for the taking. What he did do well - or at least much better than Threet - in that game was the wheel route/bubble screen. He had touch and was accurate - downfield - not so much - and by downfield I mean over 5 yards.

i went to high school with nick and he really is a a cool guy i would love for him to beat tate for the job but i really think tate will win the quarterback position

I just wonder if the competition is biased more toward tate (or denard) even before they hit the practice field. RR needs some wins this year, but he arguably needs wins in the future more. Playing Tate (or Denard) as the starter this year would better prepare RR for the years to come. Our win margin will undoubtedly improve this year, no matter who is QB. It is the next few years that RR really needs to be great years - more so than this year.

can serve this team by teaching them the play book, and helping with the maturation process and handling stress (and criticism) at a bigtime FB program. If he does this, and gets some play time, to the point that we eek out an extra win or two, then fantastic.

While Sheridan was downright painful to watch last season, we should not completely rule out the possibility that he'll improve with experience. He might turn out to be a competent backup quarterback. I wouldn't want to see him start, but he might be able to fill in for a few series here and there if needed.

Nick Sheridan will be a better QB in 2009 based on more experience, improved mechanics, increased speed due to Barwis, and a better understanding of the offense. He has a tremendous attitude and he seems to understand the attitude of Michigan fans. He isn't stupid. He knows the freshman QB's are more talented than him. And it would take an injury of Tate to see the field. Will he be better than last season: YES Will he be the starter in 2009: NO If he sees the field in anything other than mop-up duty, I will cry.

I dont care if he is improved or not. The symbolism of Sheridan on the field in 2009 will be too much to take. He has come (unfortunately for him) to represent 2008 for many fans, including myself. I don't blame him for 2008, but the name Sheridan = 2008 in my head. The only way to I wont get really pissed off and depressed in seeing Sheridan on the field is if Tate and Denard both suck. Damn, I am getting depressed just thinking about it .

This guy certainly is wise beyond his years and position. I would say that to have that kind of an attitude about the job and the way that the fanbase feels about him really says something about who he is. In the movie Rudy I remember the part where Sean Astin walks into the coaches office and asks to play. The coach says something like I wish I had your heart in these guys bodies. Side note I was noticing how if you did not know anything about him, and you saw the pic of him in the article you would think that he was probably pretty good. How deceptive one pic can be.

From the sound of the comments, Sheridan seems like a scrapper who is unwilling to give up his dream. He was a walk-on who go a once in a life time shot and no doubt he believes that if he works hard and continues to progress, that he might just have a shot. As much as I would cringe at the thought of him on the field taking snaps in normal game situations [i.e. not up 70-0], he seems like such a good guy that it is almost cruel to dump on his dream.
