Semi-OT: Do you guys remember when EDSBS posted content?

Submitted by drz1111 on
Because it sure ain't happening this year. They're posting just a couple of articles a week - there used to be more content on a typical week on May than in-season this year. I know Spencer Hall is pulled in ten different directions these days but it doesn't even seem like he has minions anymore. Did I miss something about them winding the site down? Shame, that was always my #2 stop for CFB after mgoblog.

Spencer Hall and Ryan Nanni put out a couple podcasts per week called "Shutdown Fullcast". They also tweet a ton. Maybe rhey haven't got time to write anymore. /shrug

I'm afraid there's a LOT of things about our immediate future you're not gonna love Yo. Guys getting paid for juvenile internet content is just one of them. But it's easy for us to avoid, except when our children listen to it out loud.

Go ahead, look how much some people are making for Vines. You'll cry, and then you'll take a rudimentary iPhone video production crash course and try to join em. Trust!

Agreed, and much worse is when they make a video or podcast of what they could've just written down.  It's one thing to make video that needs to be video, like Stuffing the Passer.  But I confess I've never once listened to an MGoBlog podcast (or practically any podcast, ever) because I don't want to spend an hour listening to something I could read in ten minutes.

This ^^^^^^

Aside from content, people that write are not necessarily the best for recording - either audio or video.  Listening to most writers talk about things is something for their friends and spouses to do, and can be a painful experience for the rest of us.  Writing - that's where you started, and should be where you end.  It's what you're good at - do it!!!

move of Jane to MTV and Nanni's recent jump into fatherhood are among the factors contributing to lessened #tronctent.  Additionally, their willingness to abandon popular pieces before they grow stale (HAS, for example) has caused some gaps in regularly scheduled programming.

I'd agree with the above here. There's been a lot of change and turnover happening at the same time. Unfortunately, the level of content has suffered. They used to have LSUFreek too who has kind of stepped out of the spotlight completely, only really emerging for Les Miles getting fired. Jane is at MTV with Holly Anderson, two EDSBS alums. Nanni just had the kid. Spencer seems to be traveling a lot.

I do wish they had more of ActionCookBook's corgi doing college football rankings. Overall, they probably could use another person or two to provide #content.

They claim it wasn't successful, but their Shutdown Fullback videos were hilarious. It was so low rent and weird, like an [Adult Swim] program. I still go back to see the one with LSU's Cajun lawyer.

the beauty of written content is that you can consume it at the rate you want to.  Feel like skimming an article about Bret Bielema's favorite foods?  30 SECONDS  IS PLENTY I GET IT HE'S FAT AND BROISH.  Want to spend 10 minutes lavishing in an article about Saturday's Piscat-porn thrashing of Rutgers? Read it thrice!

But with a podcast, you're locked in to listening at the rate that they speak (or rather, that you can speed it up to), which is waayy slower than reading written content.   I get that maybe its more lucrative for them, and the EDSBS folk have corporate bosses now, but man, it's a shame they don't write anything anymore other than the occaisional Serious Article that Spencer writes.  Guy was the funniest sportswriter alive!

It was an excellent way to get a good sense of the fan bases around the country (or at least a selection of them) in one spot, along with some funny content. They used to have one for noon games, one for 3:30pm, and one for night -- all user-generated content, so I don't see why those went away. Seems like it would be cheap & easy. Do they not have a moderator, even a volunteer? Did something else happen (e.g., they are gun shy b/c of some incident)?

It's a real bummer there are so few posts now (no Hatin' Ass Spurrier; can't recall any LSU Freek gifs this year, etc). Not the end of the world, but it was my third favorite CFB site (after this and TTB), but now I just occasionally drive-by.

Ryan Nanni's wife had a baby like two weeks ago, so he's been posting basically nothing and took on less regular writing for the season from the start--it's kind of amazing he's started doing the podcasts again.

But what glorious podcasts they are.

I miss the Fulmer Cup... you have to Google it now because it sure isn't obvious on that hot mess of an unorganized site.
