Semi-OT: Article about the Next Chapter for Phil Martelli
Bit of a fluff piece, but I figured that the Michigan connection made it worth posting. Basically the gist is that Phil is coming back to Philly, and I guess watching his sons coach. He's turning 70 soon, but doesn't want to fully retire.
Phil Martelli is returning to Philadelphia: ‘I just want to give back’ (inquirer.com)
Phil is a world-class human being from all accounts that I have seen. I hope this next stage in his career is as rich and meaningful as he desires.
Thanks for posting. Considering his contributions to Michigan, I see this post as very ON topic.
Enjoyed Phil as a Michigan coach and wish him well. Always seemed like an honorable guy.
Happy the team is making the changes, but no hard feelings toward any of the coaches.
Definitely sending out best wishes and hoping all the coaches land in good places.
Great article! I had a few interactions with Phil and he was one of the most engaged, high-quality people I've ever encountered in the sports world. (Rudy Tomjanovich, Desmond Howard, and boxer/mayor Vitali Klitschko are among the others.)
Phil deserves a job that excites his basketball IQ and allows him to "give back" while also giving him time to watch his sons coach and his grandsons play ball. Thanks for your time in Ann Arbor, Coach!
