Scouting Report: Kenny Lacy
Now that Phoenix (AZ) Mountain Pointe offensive lineman Kenny Lacy has been offered, I wrote up a scouting report on him. He's a little bit too passive, in my opinion. I would characterize most of Michigan's commits and offerees as being very aggressive, so Lacy appears to be a little bit of an outlier. The athletic talent is there, but he might need to have a little bit of a fire lit under him to get the competitive juices flowing.

I'd rather have Eddie Lacy than Kenny Lacy.

I'm not really sure how to interpret that.

I've always been partial to Cagney & Lacey myself.

Any thoughts on Chabert's aggressiveness?

I like it a lot.

I wish she was a Michigan fan so we could post her gifs

I'm willing to bet she's heard of Michigan before. That has to count for something right?

Everybody's heard of Michigan. After all, it's the home of Bob Seger and Madonna.

He'd be a pretty shitty offensive lineman...

Sometimes it can be a matter of motivation (getting him to play for his teammates, getting him emotionally invested, etc.), but I think it's a very tough thing to coach. It's hard to make guys aggressive who lack that trait. It's much easier to tone down aggression.

Not sure if you've looked at his film yet, Magnus, but based on the highlight film Ace embedded in his Monday recruiting post, Cameron Hunt seems to possess an excellent nasty streak -- it looked like he takes real pleasure in pancaking overmatched HS opponents. He might lack Lacy's size, but how many more tackle-sized dudes do we need? I'd rather have the nasty guy who is more of a true pure guard to fill Dawson's former spot in this class, than a OT-sized guy who lacks aggressiveness.

I haven't done a full scouting report on him, but yeah, from what I've seen, Hunt seems more aggressive. He's a little thin, so it might take him two or three years to get up to the right size, but he looks like a decent prospect.

Thanks for sharing, Magnus, and based on the junior highlights video in your post as well as the one from Hudl that Aquaman shared, I would agree as well about the aggressiveness angle. He seems to go into some blocks not as physically as you would expect, if you will, which is a contrast from the film on a lot of current commits - this would be a counterintuitive choice for the current staff, I think, at least just based on film. Still, for his size, I like the notion of 6'6" at OT.

To me it seemed like his biggest problem was letting the other man get hand position, he didn't really seem to extend his arms all that well (something that can be taught I'd assume). As for the lack of agression, considering how much bigger and more powerful he was than his opponents in that video, it seems a bit premature to say that he isn't aggressive enough. I'd like to see him against people who can chalenge him before dismissing him as not being aggressive enough, because although he wasn't exactly ripping people's heads off, he still was manhandling them.

Yeah, that's another issue that I fogot to mention in the scouting report. He doesn't use his hands well on either side of the ball.
