Saturday Night Games and BBQ Thread - 'Homegating' Practice
Mates,
Some decent games tonight - The big one of course being Bama/UGA. A couple of others of interest include UNC v. FSU (yes, FSU, we want to cherry pick your best recruits) and Virginia Tech v. B.C.
And it's time to put in some pre-season training for 'homegating', another new word for the non-attendance of football games. One week from this evening we will be just about to watch Michigan take the field in Minnesota. You will need to be in mid-season form for that, and there's no time like now to put the training and effort in.
Tonight's questions are:
1. Bama is favored by 6 over UGA, game in AL. Who do you take in that one? What about the UNC/FSU tilt, with UNC favored by 13 points?
2. What is on your BBQ tonight? And what adult beverage might be accompanying it?
One week, that's it. Almost there. In the meantime, have a great evening and Go Blue!

Bama and UNC for me. Putting some steak burgers on the grill in a bit.
October 17th, 2020 at 6:18 PM ^
1. What is a steak burger (in the context of at-home grilling)?
2. Can I have one pls?

I don’t know if it’s because Michigan plays In 1 week or what, but I am so bored with college football today. Louisville vs ND was good and I hope for a battle tonight with UGA and Bama, but I can’t wait for next weekend.
October 17th, 2020 at 7:07 PM ^
The last six weeks have felt like being separated from half of our college football family. As comforting as it is to see the southern schools play it doesn't feel right not having everyone start and finish together.
I also miss waking up and half paying attention to college gameday and taking in the atmosphere of wherever they would travel. I haven't watched a second of college zoomday this year. Here's hoping everything is right next fall.
Frozen pizza and diet dew tonight. Indulged in some hamm's during my round of golf earlier. Old fashioneds with bulleit rye tomorrow during the nfl slate.
October 17th, 2020 at 6:20 PM ^
It's so weird. I haven't watched any college football to date. It's almost like it doesn't exist because Michigan hasn't played yet. But I think I'll sample the Bama-Dawgs game since it would be nice to watch sports whilst inhaling hot wings.
I'll also tune in to the UNC-FSU game to see what fountain of coaching youth Mack Brown has been sipping from.
The grill won't be used tonight in Madison, WI since we're experiencing 40+ mph winds. Wings will be cooked in the air fryer based on best practices gleaned from MGoBloggers. I have a few New Glarus bottles chilling in the basement refrigerator which will definitely be sampled.
Any snowflake sightings in the northern LP, XM? Northern Wisconsin and the UP definitely got some early season accumulations.

Snow yesterday covered the lawn but not enough to blot out the fields. It melted pretty quickly.
October 17th, 2020 at 6:22 PM ^
My BBQ was the branches from three of my blue spruces that were badly in need of trimming, not to mention all the leaves from the maple trees I've collected over the last few weeks
October 17th, 2020 at 6:27 PM ^
Quite the pyre, EYB. Most of the spruce in our yard are dying off, so I may replicate your pyre soon.

A whole troop of boys scouts Could roast marshmallows over that bad boy.
October 17th, 2020 at 7:00 PM ^
I thought of this, after I lit the fire of course. So I was left craving smores without any of the ingredients.
October 17th, 2020 at 8:57 PM ^
+1 for smores. It's bonfire and smores season ?
October 18th, 2020 at 12:48 AM ^
Looks like a burning man festival.
October 17th, 2020 at 6:24 PM ^
Bama and UNC both ATS. I picked up an 18 lb full prime packer from Costco that will be going on the offset overnight for tomorrow.
October 17th, 2020 at 6:26 PM ^
There were a couple really good noon games today - watching ranked SEC teams (Auburn & Tennessee) getting upset was fun - and Liberty(!?) beating down an ACC team in the road to get to 5-0 was interesting. Much of the other games today have been decidedly "meh", but... it's still college football.

I don’t have access to the games right now.
I am broiling some NY strips.
I am drinking several bourbons.
October 17th, 2020 at 6:40 PM ^
The two good games, including Alabama versus Georgia, are on regular TV. No cable or satellite needed.
October 17th, 2020 at 6:44 PM ^
I know, but I have no HD antennae and therefore no access to local channels. I will have that issue fixed in time for UM v UM next Saturday.
October 17th, 2020 at 7:46 PM ^
Need a free streaming link?
October 17th, 2020 at 6:52 PM ^
Plus one for the NY (my personal favorite cut) and for the bourbon (my personal favorite tipple)
October 17th, 2020 at 6:45 PM ^
I’m pulling for UGA, but I think Alabama covers the spread. Not sure what to think about North Carolina yet, but I am pretty sure of what to expect from FSU. UNC covers there too. Being in Okinawa, my CFB happens in the AM. I’ll be tossing a couple New York strips on the grill toward the end of the nightcap though! Embracing the culture, I’m filling my cup with Orion. Cheers XM!
October 17th, 2020 at 7:18 PM ^
please tell me what japanese beef is like. also, what is orion?
October 17th, 2020 at 10:22 PM ^
I’m in the Air Force so the beef I’m getting is coming from the United States, but they do have wagyu beef out here and it is light cutting through butter... Very expensive butter... Very tasty for an anniversary. Orion is a Japanese beer that is very popular on the island. They have a local brewery. It’s not my favorite, but it’s decent and always available!

I like Bama tonight by a field goal, but Georgia's defense has certainly looked more impressive than Saban's thus far.
Fried chicken, mac 'n cheese, mixed veggies, and A&W root beer.
Maybe some mint chocolate chip ice cream later.
Don't judge, I'm on vacation.
October 17th, 2020 at 7:04 PM ^
vlady, the only thing i might 'judge' you on is the mint chocolate chip. ditch the mint. all else sounds very good.
October 17th, 2020 at 6:53 PM ^
Not on the grill but duck breast tonight.
I’ve been dipping my toes into smoking lately and am looking for something to put in the smoker next Saturday. Any suggestions? Ideally something like a pork butt (done it a lot) or brisket (way too big for just me and my wife).
October 17th, 2020 at 7:03 PM ^
suggestion: bbq a lobster for you and the mrs. get two smaller ones, cut them in half length-wise, put some butter on it and put it on the grill.
October 17th, 2020 at 7:39 PM ^
That’s a good idea. Haven’t done that in a while. I like to parboil them first though.
October 17th, 2020 at 10:23 PM ^
Still looking for some meats to smoke though.
October 17th, 2020 at 7:00 PM ^
Finale of show week for the middle school musical meant celebrating on our 7th grader’s terms trumped grilling for Bama-UGa (despite deep family ties to both). So it was a sushi party here tonight.
October 17th, 2020 at 7:05 PM ^
Bama big. Koegel Viennas properly burned on a charcoal grill. Nikka Coffey gin dry martini.
October 17th, 2020 at 7:09 PM ^
Lazy-ass day. Watching Texas A&M beat up on Miss St and wondering who Leach will throw under the bus after this one. Later: making peanut butter cookies from a recipe that best approximates the peanut butter cookies I used to get at the Kerrytown Market. I loved those. Smoking some primo blueberry kush. Still need to work out but may sample a few psychotropic mushrooms after that.
Bama, until Smart proves he can win a big game.
October 17th, 2020 at 7:19 PM ^
Did you catch all the tiger games this year?
October 17th, 2020 at 7:31 PM ^
Oh yeah. Detroit. LSU, Auburn, Clemson, Missouri, Princeton, Grambling St, Hamilton, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Hanshin.
I never miss a game.
October 17th, 2020 at 7:24 PM ^
And the flood of content is coming......excellent
1. I'll take Bama and the points. Think they got a wake-up call and will tighten it up. UNC will roll, also.
2. No BBQ tonight. Cheddar-wurst on the Foreman (sort of a grill?) and mac and cheese. Boring seltzer with dinner and Labatt later on.
October 17th, 2020 at 7:31 PM ^
honorable mention tonight: forgot about the boxing match tonight. lightweights fighting for the championship. used to pay a lot more attention to boxing but this sounds like an interesting bout. they say the main event will tip off at about 11 for those interested. it's on espn, not pay per view.

UCF @ Memphis game looked a blowout early - finishing dramatically now

UCF-Memphis has gotten EXTREMELY interesting.
UCF up by 5 with 1:24 to go, Memphis 1st and goal at the UCF 5 ...
October 17th, 2020 at 7:40 PM ^
TD Tigers!!!
October 17th, 2020 at 7:45 PM ^
50-49 Memphis after a couple attempts at the 2-point conversion failed. 1:08 left
October 17th, 2020 at 7:49 PM ^
Wow.
UCF just missed a 40 yarder with 24 ticks left.
Memphis wins 50-49.
October 17th, 2020 at 7:50 PM ^
Obarski missed a chippie.
October 17th, 2020 at 7:52 PM ^
and UCF misses the 40 yrd field goal. good game.
October 17th, 2020 at 7:56 PM ^
FSU making a strong start against UNC... as everyone expected.
A lot of people in the stands, too.
October 17th, 2020 at 8:13 PM ^
Bama throws an interception on the first play of the game? Maybe.
October 17th, 2020 at 8:14 PM ^
If Georgia is ever going to beat Alabama, it's gotta be in this weird, fucked-up year.
October 17th, 2020 at 8:15 PM ^
Cheesedicks in the booth really wanted Bama to keep the ball.
October 17th, 2020 at 8:16 PM ^
Georgia already getting a dubious call go their way - feels like this might be one of those nights.
October 17th, 2020 at 8:18 PM ^
i like nessler and danielson as annoncers. i know lots of folks don't like danielson.
and what a pass by the bama QB, beautiful TD throw.
October 17th, 2020 at 8:21 PM ^
Right over the top of former top Michigan target Lewis Cine.
October 17th, 2020 at 8:21 PM ^
Annnnnd that was way too easy.
Only Bama could throw a pick on the first play of the game and then still end up scoring before you can blink three times.
