Saturday's Open Practice Tickets?

Submitted by 1201SouthMain on

I just found out that Saturday's practice requires tickets!  When I heard open and free practice, the thought of tickets never crossed my mind.  Then I find out that registration for tickets ended yesterday!

Is there another way to get tickets?  My dumbass was telling my kid last night how we're going.  Ugh.

Thanks in advance.

Mlive has an article up that only 26,407 of the tickets went. Michigan has announced that people will be able to get in if they show up Saturday.

I hope we get a lot more than that because OSU will be laughing. I think peoples expectations are low though.

My guess is that they were hoping to get information on those who were attending so they can send emails with ticket offers at a later date.

It seems to me that getting people to register for 26,000 tickets in just the five days since the open scrimmage was announced is nothing to be disappointed about.

And to others speculating about the reason why they were initially requiring people to register, the explanation is a simple one, as Baumgardner explained in a comment to the article:

They wanted people to register so they'd have an idea of how many to expect. For staffing/security/etc reasons.

This makes perfect sense given that this is the first open scrimmage they've held.

Why would OSU be laughing? I mean getting 30,000 to an open practice before school even starts is nothing to laugh at. There are some schools that dream of getting 30,000 at a home game, let alone a practice. Did OSU have a big practice or something that I may have missed?

I'm with you.  I read 26k in attendance and thought "wow - that's a lot of people to watch a practice".  Wasnt till I read the other comments that I realized that was somehow not good.

Either way - would one of you 26k please post how the O-Line looks?  That's all I really care about right now.

I was hoping it would be at least half full but in reality that is probably being overly optimistic.

The based on the previous post, they did make misrepresent the continued offering of tickets as more desperation rather than what was planned.

The tickets are only for early entrance into the stadium at 6:30 PM (practice starts at 8 PM).  Non-ticket holders can enter at 7 PM.  Here is the info:

Michigan Football will hold an Open Practice free to all fans on Saturday, August 16, inside Michigan Stadium, with practice slated to begin at 8 p.m.

As a Season Ticket Holder, you will receive the exclusive benefit of early access to Open Practice at
6:30 p.m. through Gate 1; gates will open at 7 p.m. to the General Public.

Starting at noon today (Friday, August 8), all Season Ticket Holders can login to their online account to obtain complimentary Open Practice tickets or pick up tickets at the U-M Athletic Ticket Office; Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. EDT.  The deadline for obtaining complimentary admission is Wednesday, August 13 at 5 p.m.; there is a limit of eight tickets per Season Ticket Holder.

Parking will be available in any of the University lots around Michigan Stadium without a fee.  Pioneer High School will be charging $10 per vehicle.

I don't see the purpose of having tickets for this event.

How many people are going to show up 90 minutes before the scrimmage starts at 8 PM?  If you show up after 7 PM the ticket has no value.

I doubt I'll have trouble finding a seat when I show up at 7:55.

Love the idea of an open scrimmage regardless.  They should do this every year.

Does anyone know if the 300 students who get to stand on the sidelines have been announced? I signed up exactly at noon so i would imagine i had a pretty good chance. Still haven't seen or heard anything.

Honestly this was late notice for me to go.  I just went back to visit the week before from Chicago and while I'd love to go to see the scrimmage, I don't think I'm going to be making the trip again.  I'll be doing a lot of driving when the season comes though, as I am one of the fools who got season tickets.

Just spoke to the ticket office and you do not need tickets, although they would like people to register online to get a sense of how many to expect. I tried to find the registration at MGoBlue.com, but the link doesn't take you to where you need to go.

What exactly are they providing for season ticket holders that would make them want to show up an hour and half early?  They get the pleasure of watching birds fly over the stadium?  Watch the team run laps?

I look forward to going but I don't plan to be there until shortly before 8:00.

I'm sure they would have filled up the stadium, so I could see where tickets would be needed. After the last 6 seasons, I don't think filling the stadium was big concern, so not sure why tickets were required?
