Sam Web On the Final 5 Spots In the '14 Recruiting Class

Submitted by MGoVoldemort on

On recruiting roundup, Sam Webb took a guess on the final 5 recruits that will finish up the class.

Da'Shawn Hand

Tay Scott

Malik McDowell

Jamarco Jones

Adoree Jackson

Other than the obvious "yes, please" response, three of these 5 recruits would be incredible, and would almost certainly guarantee a top 3 recruiting class.

Thoughts?

Edit: I finally listened to this morning's recruiting roundup, and this information is legit; Disregard earlier statement.

I'm on here much more than I should be. With news as slow as it has been I've only looked every few hours lately.

As far as posting, what's the point when you get negged for adding your opinion.

Before I left teaching to pursue international relations, I taught at a Catholic School for 3 years. You are unable to graduate early from a Catholic school, because you have to take classes that are not state mandated, such as history of religion, and theology, and have anhour taken up by morning mass. That being said, the standard 6 hour school day is taken up by not core classes, that do not allow students to earn the required credits earky enough to graduate a semester early.

If that's how the class plays out then we'll have a better class than USCs last year (before it fell apart.) 5+ 5 stars including 2 of the top 3, and possibly 10+ top 100 recruits.

I refuse to hope for such a ridicuously good finish. if it happens, that would be amazing

Hell im thrilled just about the commits that we have now. Do you guys think there will ever be 2 signing days with one of them being around let's say, September?

An early signing period would be fantastic, especially for UM who seem to be getting a lot of early commits. Luckily, those early commits have panned out and stuck with their commitment (for the most part, looking at you Conley). I would definitely feel much better though, knowing these early commitments could sign their NLOI in September.

I'm not getting my hopes up for a finish like that, but if we were able to land all 5 of them, wow. Could be in the running for the #1 class, or top 3 at the absolute worst.

A) they leave conference. Pretty much a "screw you were outta here"

B) success in SEC ala Heisman and lots of wins

C) recruiting classes are now better than Texas'

And

D) Adding seating to stadium which will make A&Ms bigger than Texas'

Now, although I see where your coming from, sarcasm or not, imagine of MSU achieved what is listed above. Meltdown I tell you, meltdown!

I think several of our recruits are likely to get bumped up a star by 2014 signing day, though.  For instance, I think Drake Harris will get a fifth star, Speight will be a 4-star, Mone might be a 5-star, Winovich will probably get a fourth star...  It's dfficult to compare interim point totals with a previous year's final totals for that reason.  Still, probably no way we finish with the #1 class if we only sign 16 players.

That combo in this class would make the computers explode that rankings are done on with star overload. Would be very nice.

If it happened to be the case that we did get all five, then at least with the Rivals data I've been collecting, it would be the first time since they started anyway that Michigan would have three five-star players in the class. Actually, if we did get all five, then it is literally 0.01 off the average rating for 2003, which was 3.82, so 2014 has the potential -if we managed to land everyone listed - to perhaps be right there with highest rated class that Michigan has had since Rivals began its ratings.

Perhaps what speaks well for how this staff recruits and identifies talent is that it would also be the third consecutive year of improvement in the average rating. That is an impressive feat in today's environment by itself.

Yesterday on the recruiting roundup we would take at least one more linebacker, maybe two... Now he doesn't list any?

There's a difference between "would take" and "will get."  If a guy like Dwight Williams wants to commit, then Michigan would probably take him.  But they don't need a weakside linebacker if it's just a guy.

The caller asked him to name the 5 uncommitted recruits that are most likely to end up a part of this class, not the last 5.  At the end Sam said he would throw a LB in there as the 6th.

is that Jones is announcing the 27th, and Scott and Jackson are in town for the barbecue, I think, as well as Hand announcing by December, so we will know if this is coming to fruition largely by the time the season starts. For me, this means things should stay relatively interesting until the season (and grad school) starts.

This.

The BBQ is the most important date left on our recruiting calendar.  I believe it sealed the deal for Derrick Green last year, even though he waited to commit.  We will get at least one elite prospect out of that event.

If Sam's list is right, I believe the '14 class will be our best ever, based on the average talent level of the committed players.  Rivals' rankings were much less accurate 10 years ago, and I think this class would be better, on average.

Would love it if we could even get a few of those guys. It feels like recruiting has gotten more and more exciting each year with our staff.  Now I can't wait to see these recruiting classes that Hoke has put together have lots of success on the field.

Seems like the staff really jumps out quick now. They are already on their way to building relationships with the 2015 prospects.

I don't know if this is all that new but it doesn't seem like we heard about so many younger prospects in the past. Maybe one or two but not this many offers already.

The night game will be really good since most of the class is already on board so they can recruit the 2015 prospects that will be there.

Lots of momentum right now.

I'm not saying Sam is wrong about McDowell, but I can't help but notice that he's visited MSU10 times (twice as many times as Michigan), and that he's also visited MSU more recently than Michigan.

I likewise am surprised about the lack of attention Nicholson gets on the board, as I think he would be a huge get.

He is taking his recruiting at a very methodical pace. He has announced no timetable nor no top list among his 30 offers. He did nothing in the spring because of track (where he fared very well). He did ok at the Pittsburgh rivals camp, he blew up the Columbus camp (MVP), he is going to at Chicago rivals camp this week, and will be at The Opening later this summer. I see him flying up the boards as he finishes up these camps. He wants to take all his 5 official visits (I thinkg Oregon and Stanford have him intrigued). The good news is he has stated one visit will be in Ann Arbor for the ND game. Michigan coaches were at his high school a few weeks ago, so they are still pursuing him. I know his family likes the Michigan coaches the best.

if hoke can close the deal and have those kids sign, we can all agree we can put to rest the hoke can't recruit debate. unfortunately we will still not be a threat to MSU.
