Roll Call: Ohio Stadium

Submitted by SpikeFan2016 on

Who else is venturing into the worst state in America and braving the swarms of heathen people to attend The Game tomorrow?

My brother and I will be in Section 8C, row 3.

GO BLUE, BEAT OHIO!!!

I've already done it.

It's funny how the vast majority of the babies on here who gripe that you'd have to be insane to go have never actually experienced what they claim to know so well.

I know road travel is not for everyone and that's fine, and I know Ohio State fans are worse than anyone else in the country, but there is no reason that as a fanbase we need to have this prevailing cowardice towards being visitors there.

Win or lose, our team has worked their butts off this year and I will be cheering them on tomorrow.

I've never been there and would like to go. I find it hard to believe it can be as bad as many on here say it is. I imagine if you go down there and shoot your mouth off it's probably not the best, but just mind your own business and I'm sure you'd be fine outside of random you sucks and fuck yous.

As someone who has been, it's not as bad as many on here say it is.

It is still the worst environment a Michigan fan can go into by far. You will be probably be flipped off and told to fuck off by people ranging from children to old women.

But inside the stadium it's honestly fine, and outside the stadium if you mind your own business nobody will actually do anything. You just have to be smart: don't venture into frat parties alone, don't get drunk, don't mouth off at OSU fans, cheer FOR Michigan not AGAINST OSU (for example, surrounded by OSU fans, we sang The Victors every time we scored, even when we took the lead and nobody said or did anything to us about it. One women even commented how she had never known the words before. HOWEVER, I would not recommend doing the "YOU SUCK" chant after OSU fails to convert a 3rd down).

As Harbaugh says, you just need to have steel in your spine.

Sure came off that way. It's annoying to be called crazy for attending the biggest game of the year. Not to mention, it makes us look pretty pathetic as a fanbase.

If you gave any Auburn fan free tickets to the Iron Bowl tomorrow, they would go despite being much bigger underdogs than we are. It seems as if half this fanbase wouldn't even go for free. I can't think of any other big rivalry that's like that. We travel well everywhere else, including to two other rivals, bowl games and hostile Penn State White Outs, but for some reason nobody here has the balls for Columbus. It's sad.

It didn't come off that way at all. It honestly came off as "kudos for having the testicular fortitude for dealing with that environment." If you can man up and deal with the jabbing you deal with wearing Michigan garb at the Shoe, then you can man up and deal with the minor ribbing you'll get on here for humble bragging about going. That said, have fun, cheer loud and be safe.

It's not "minor ribbing for humble bragging". We have one of these for every single road game and that never, ever happens like it just did.

I'm willing to bet if Penn State, Nebraska, Wisconsin or Michigan State were entering the Horseshoe ranked #3 in the country they wouldn't have this reaction to a thread like this.

Be a Michigan fan with pride and enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

There's also more horror stories and bad experiences that Michigan fans have from going to the Horseshoe and Columbus in general (some verbal, some physical, some firsthand, some secondhand) than any other away stadium for us. I know former players and players' family members who are bigger fans than you and I will ever be who've even had such bad experiences there as fans who won't go anymore. So yeah, in jest, I'll call you crazy for going, but at the same time hope you have fun and that nothing negative happens. No need to puff out your chest and get defensive about it, just do your thing.

Yes, and a great many of those stories are hyperbolic. Many are true too, most of which were long in the past.

But "bad" stories happen in literally every sport (professional and college) all over the country. Many are avoidable and the rest are random and unfortunate, but you risk something every time you do just about anything in life.

Again, like I said before, it's not for everyone and that's fine. It's not about being a better fan. But it is not crazy in the slightest. Ohio State for Michigan fans is not any more uncomfortable than LSU for Bama fans or Tuscaloosa for Auburn fans. Any disagreement with that is wrong and I don't care which second-handed player parent story from the 1990s gave you that.

There is no reason for the second largest fanbase in America to be terrified of visiting their rivals. None. Sure, it's not friendly, but that's the point of rivalries.

Good luck to those going, tons of respect to you all. I hope you enjoy it. I suppose it's one of those bucket list items, but I just have zero interest in ever venturing into that shithole or engaging with those scumbags. I know it's not right to paint all of them with that brush but there are more than enough that go so far past the line that I have no desire to come anywhere near them.

First game at a stadium that isn't The Big House, but I felt venturing into the lion's den was a fitting end to almost 22 years living in Ann Arbor.

Any area in Colombus that UM fans typically congregate to tailgate?

Geez, with fans like these, who needs opponents? The responses so far make me feel bad for this team.

I can't wait to see UM play in a hostile, foreign staduim one day, and the horseshoe is the pinnacle of that. I believe you can't really know what your team goes through unless you experience it (the fan version of it) yourself.

If I still lived in the Midwest I would most certainly be there. It's sad that Ohio State fans will raid a Michigan game but Michigan fans won't (scared). Life long Michigan fan but you have to envy OSUs fan base, it's better than ours.

Going with a patient who has tickets in the trustee section. 50 yard line behind the Michigan bench, not sure what row. I am going to wearing the maize and blue suit in my avatar, minus the hat. I have hidden camera spy glasses that I will be wearing and plan to post the experience Sunday. Pray for me.

I went there one time in my life and that was enough. I had to keep my head on a swivel at all times. It was terrible and most people were rude and obnixous. I had several beers thrown on me and OSU won that game. I swore I would never go back and I plan on keeping that promise!! Living in this state is bad enough. I had on a pullover a few weeks ago at the grocery store and they were scowling at me. Even the cashier said he couldn't sell beer to a Michigan fan. Real funny now pack my groceries kid..

On a flip note when I did have Michigan season tickets I took many of my OSU friends to games over the years and they were suprised / happy how nice everyone was to them. It is a completely different experiece.
