Dear Nanook,

Thanks for the time-suck. How am I supposed to get work done today with just a few minutes of this documentary tempting me to watch the whole thing?!

Am I Blue

Dear Nanook,

Work? What's that? Time for a documentary dive.

Thank you.

Am I Blue (You'd Be Too)

Yes, that was really good. I just wish Archie Griffin would tell the truth about his recruitment.

I watched the whole thing last night, loved the schadenfreude parts and the scientific analysis of the visceral reactions to the colors of your rival.

Yes! Michigan vs. Ohio State is the Greatest Rivalry in all of the sporting world.

Archie loves to say he was going to go to Northwestern until Woody came calling and he switched to OSU, the real truth is that Bo's friend Bill Gunlock told Bo about Archie and Bo had him on the hook.

Archie was a wrestler and football player at Eastmoor High School, Woody originally passed on Archie because he felt he was "too small" to play at OSU. Archies Wrestling Coach was a Buckeye, Bo came to several of Archie's Wrestling Matches to show him that he was very interested in having Archie come to Michigan. The wrestling coach called Woody and told him that Bo was recruiting Archie. Woody came to visit Archie and put the full court press on him and got him to flip to Ohio State.

Bo always believed that is why Archie Griffin became the first ever freshman to start at tailback for the Buckeyes.

My source for this story was none other than Coach Schembechler himself, back in the late 90's a co-worker of mine played with Messner at Catholic Central and introduced me to him and Bo at the annual Football Bust put on every year at The Laurel Manor, there was cigar smoking and drinking taking place after the awards and the question got asked by Gary Moeller "Who was the one guy you wish hadn't got away?"

There was no hesitation Bo snapped back "Archie Griffin", and then the story above ensued, Ask anyone who crossed paths with Bo, he could tell a story like no one else and that one of the best I ever heard.

It aired on Bally Sports network over the weekend. Haven't watched yet but seems reminiscent of Michigan vs. OSU on HBO before the 1v2 game in 2006.
