Rivals B1G Conference Preview

Submitted by kaykaybroke on

RIvals writers did a write-up on the Big Ten conference.

Interesting tidbits:

- Michigan has 3 players on All Conference 1st Team, 1 on 2nd team

- Denard was unanimously voted the best player in the year, and the best offensive player as well

- Jake Ryan voted best defensive newcomer(!)

- Michigan tied for Ohio St. w/ best uniforms.

etc.

1. Sparty got 3 of 5 votes as biggest dissapointment team.

2. Hoke and co. were ranked as a better coaching staff than Dantanio and co. Sparty fans are going to have a field day with that.

TEAM THAT WILL SURPRISE: Michigan. Rich Rodriguez was inching closer to a breakthrough. Brady Hoke will do it. The roster has talent, especially on offense, and the defensive personnel is young and maturing. There's a standout coaching staff led by Al Borges (offensive coordinator) and Greg Mattison (defensive coordinator) to put everyone in place to succeed.

Not sure how they put two defensive linemen on first team all conference, then make it the 6th best unit by adding Van Bergen.  He isn't that bad. If it is a depth problem, I am willing to give Black and Campbell a little more credit than that, especially considering the coaching they are getting.

but you seem to think we are going to have a 3 man front, which we aren't. I doubt RVB is hurting our overall DL rating, it's Campbell and, as you suggested, our depth. Black should be a good back up, but otherwise the depth really is quite bad. That said, I might also argue to be a spot or two higher.

wait What? So Rivals put two sparties on the first all preseason team, but ranked their offensive line unit 10th overall...DOES NOT COMPUTE...The sparty o-line is by far the most overrated unit in the big ten.

Lets see, 12 teams, 24 offensive/defensive units, more positional units, many many more players, and then innumerable comparisons. These things will never compute in additive fashion. Often the whole is greater or less than its parts, and then you have to compare those wholes to other wholes, and so on. Pointing out so-called inconsistencies is always superficial cheap shots, and more demonstrates a lack of appreciation for the big, unwieldy whole/part complex muddle.

I found it interesting that they said that, almost all the sports sites went crazy when Wilson transferred. I'm still not sold on him.

I think Hemingway is gonna have a huge year this year if he can stay healthy. Just a hunch but i look for Manningham type numbers an lots of deep balls hauled in by #21.

I am not very confident that MSU is overrated and will have a disappointing year.

I also don't know why Rivals wouldn't respect Dantonio and his staff, considering their record of  year-to-year improvement.

Maybe Hoke and his coordinators will coach our team to an overachieving season and maybe they will be a good staff, but they certainly haven't proven it yet. I'll wait and see.

I read your title as "Rivals Big Conference Preview."  Are people really accepting the stupid Big Ten logo?  I'll stick to B10 and not hurt my brain.
