Rittenberg doing his Barwis homework via MGoBlog?

Submitted by WichitanWolverine on

This post isn't really that exciting, but it's a slow day and I'm bored.

ESPN is doing a bunch of overkill-ish pieces about the different S&C programs around the country.

Here he talks about Barwis: http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/tag/_/name/strength-coach-june-2010

One noteworthy quote was "...the Philadelphia native has developed quite a reputation among Michigan players and fans."  I'm pretty sure a statement like that could only come from regularly perusing MGoBlog and being constantly reminded of Barwis' wolves.

The article also mentions that Barwis was once an MMA fighter.  I was unaware.

OK, move along.  Nothing else to see here.

Regarding the post, I mean...maybe, maybe not. Obviously he reads it, but you quickly forget how much content is linked to through this site. Posts are chocked full of links. MGoBlog isn't 100% Brian doing things like going through Barwis's CV.

Pretty big leap in the logic.

Watching the '98 Rose Bowl two nights ago, I noticed how solid Griese looked.

The '97 roster has him at 6'-2", 207 lbs. The current roster has Tate at 6'-1", 194 lbs, and Denard at 6'-0", 188 lbs.

1st of all, given how Griese looked, there is no way Tate is 194 lbs. 2nd, Denard looks more solid than Tate to me ...

Now that his shoulder is healed up, Tate needs to get on the gym / chocolate milk routine.

Also, man Tai Streets was tall. He was lighter, but had a build and deceptive run style similar to Terelle Pryor. Both Jeremy Jackson and Ricardo Miller have some height on them too. Hopefully at least one emerges this season lining up for a future #1 jersey.

They fail to mention that Barwis is no longer in MMA because they couldn't find him a fair fight. His matches were like watching a wolf and a sloth go at it.

I always read that Barwis was an MMA fighter, but I've never seen any evidence.  Did he just train for MMA?  Did he have sanctioned fights?  If so, what was his record?  Not that his record has anything to do with how good of a strength coach he might be, but it would be an interesting tidbit to know...
