Risk Day 37 - You Know That Whole Thing Of Don't Mess With Georgia Tech? Change Of Plans...Get Out Your Can Of Raid

Submitted by Michigan CFB R… on April 28th, 2020 at 11:32 AM

Two important developments on the map today. We have completely consolidated the Northeast up to the New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey line. The Garden has officially been fenced! We had an incredible stroke of luck to win all of the territories north of this line, so we’ll need to capitalize on it today.

However, the other development is less than ideal. Georgia Tech has made the decision to attack us. They have remained neutral all game but have seen our progress against OSU and have been persuaded by the Buckeyes to attack us. It is up for debate as to how much this will benefit GT in the long run, but it will certainly benefit Ohio State. That means that the teams that are #2, #3, #4, and #5 in power are ALL against us. Fortunately, GT's decision to attack only after OSU was removed means that the situation isn't as dire as it could have been.

As it stands, we have 15 protected territories (since Nebraska is our ally), including the entire Pacific northwest, most of California, and the top half of Nevada. In other words, if there was ever an okay time to have GT, OSU, and TAM all against us, it's now.

So now the ball is in our court, and I say it's time to get out the Raid and exterminate some bugs. We have exactly two weeks left, and you guys have done a great job of showing up day in and day out. Let's keep it going (GO TO MichiganCFBRisk.com EVERY DAY) and show GT, OSU, and TAMU exactly what happens when you mess with the Wolverines. Go Blue!

I don't understand it from GT's perspective. Why wouldn't they team up with us to eliminate OSU? In addition, with Team Chaos's help, we might have a chance of knocking them buckeyes out, no?

My guess is that GT's strategy is that it's best if all other teams are weaker than having one other strong team. While OSU, UM and TAMU were all strong it made sense to stay neutral. Now that UM is the only other really strong team it makes sense to use the weak teams to weaken us and possibly steal the game in the last 2 weeks. Where that could backfire for them is if OSU, Wisconsin or Chaos then becomes the stronger team.

We gave a pitch to GT of the benefits of remaining neutral and not choosing a side. It fell on deaf ears obviously.

If they sided with us there's still no way OSU could be eliminated, they simply have too much power, so I'm not sure that was ever a realistic option. Them choosing to side with us just ensures that we will win the game and they'd have no real shot at 1st place.

If they side with OSU (as they have) there's a chance they can destabilize us with the help of OSU/A&M and have an outside shot at first place. Although realistically OSU would be the frontrunner here.

If they remained neutral then they could've hovered around 25-27 territories relatively easily and hoped that OSU/A&M made up some ground on us, as we have had unfounded luck the last few turns. In this scenario they could've had a real chance to win.

However, they made their decision for what they thought was best for them. There aren't any hard feelings.

Quick question...Knowing that Georgia Tech has now chosen to go against us, is there any way to get with Clemson, Oklahoma and Stanford (all three have been very calculated, the latter two even as Chaos) and attempt to get them to join our "smarter/better school/football powerhouse college group". Otherwise Oklahoma is going to try to exterminate Texas and we will be 2 vs 4...We are at a huge disadvantage right now. The other team we could try to get to join our cause is Alabama, but even I don't love the idea of them in our alliance.

Just saying I think we need Chaos to be strongly against TAMU and Georgia Tech...Not Texas. I know Stanford and us were on opposite sides this game due to our strategy, but I think we could get them convinced that we are the better group than OSU and TAMU isn't well liked as a whole (I work in Houston a lot).

Yea, but looking at the map -- I would say they took their shot a little too late. OSU is now ejected from the west, meaning we only really have to worry about GT out west and OSU in the east (oversimplifying I know). It would be much more problematic if we were fighting GT in CA, and OSU in Washington / Nevada. GT will be hard to eject, but if they spend all their energy fighting us, chaos will continue to eat them up out east. Just my $0.02

Because it was obvious. Michigan was the team in first and had the opportunity to get to a place where GT couldn't catch them in the final few turns. GT is playing for first with this move rather than putting themselves in a position that guaranteed top 3. The only question when they made the move, not if they would.

I tried to play for the first time. My assignment was Indiana so I went to team selection and picked Indiana which apparently was wrong and now it says I have to pick between Wisconsin or Chaos. Doh. Am I SOL?

What's your reddit name? We should be able to get it fixed.

Sounds like you picked Indiana as the team you wanted to play for. Indiana is dead, so your options were to play as Wisconsin, who currently owns the Indiana Territory, or play as Chaos which is basically the team of the dead (the green and black spots).

Anyways, if you drop your reddit name we can fix it for you.

Yep, pretty much. Sounds like you picked Indiana as a team, with them eliminated, you can fight for Wisconsin as a mercenary (they occupy Indiana) or Chaos, the collection of eliminated.

So you can fight with chaos and make life miserable for GT in the southeast.

Just out of curiosity - is there a way to determine which teams/locations attacked which teams/locations the prior day?   I've been playing diligently the last 3 weeks or so, and it is nice to see the end results, but it would be interesting to see more detail in the strategy the various teams took the prior day to understand how we got to the end results.  Not asking for the overall Michigan strategy to be released, but I would assume that knowledge of who attacked whom would be public the following day in some form or another?

Yes, https://collegefootballrisk.com/odds will show you previous days data.  Pretty interesting to look at.  Personally, I sort by "chance" for a cleaner view then glance through the Team Power and Territory Power columns to figure out where heavy resources have been applied and whether we won/lost where the bulk our troops were deployed.

If you want the detail for a specific territory, select  that territory on the main map and click "view history". Then click on the prior day (for example, Day 36 to see action from yesterday). That will show you how many players were sent from each team and the total power and odds for each team competing for that territory.

I got bumped down for missing a day (swear I put it in...) don't be like me!

Going back in the one star trenches is brutal after experiencing the relative prosperity of two star life. The food is bad and we only get CBS All Access.

lol!  I go back and check to make sure my assignment is still highlighted. I believe at least twice I was logged out of the assignment page and had to allow the Risk page to reconnect with my reddit profile.

It's definitely more work but I got my 5th star coming Friday night and I want to pin that star on my collar!

ps, I'll see what I can do about the chow but you're stuck with CBS. :(
