Risk Day 34 - Announcing The Wolverine/Husker/Longhorn Alliance! (And The Story Of How Nebraska Jedi Mind Tricked Ohio State)
I'm going to paint a scene for you guys. You've got two traditional powerhouses in Michigan in Nebraska who almost everybody loves to hate. These powerhouses decide early on in the game (talking turn 15 or so) to be cooperative, thereby building trust over the next couple weeks. As the trust builds, the two teams go from agreeing to a non-aggression pact (i.e. NAP) to slowly forming a friendship. A few turns ago, though, Nebraska gets approached by Ohio State, who tries to get it to join the Crusaders of the Evil Empire. We've seen OSU successfully recruit a borderline ally before (hi Aggys!), so it's plausible that Nebraska would be open to their overtures.
This is where things get good. As Nebraska considers OSU's offer, they determine that (1) the Buckeyes are assholes (whowouldathunkit?) and (2) Michigan has proven to be an excellent ally. BUT they don't tell OSU that. Instead, the Cornhuskers work with our mods to form a 1000 IQ plan. They'll convince the Buckeyes that they are on-board with turning on Michigan, while using that trust to undermine OSU in the West.
This is where the Jedi Mind Trick comes into play. Over the last few turns Nebraska “attacked” us in territories like Nevada and Oregon to build trust with OSU. Of course, these were territories that OSU also bordered, so in reality Nebraska was taking territories that the Buckeyes could have used to establish a more extensive presence in the West. In other words, the Cornhuskers Obi Wan'd the Buckeyes with "You don't need these territories. You will let US have these territories."
Of course, vague hand waves only go so far in the real world, so Nebraska ALSO "attacked" us in territories that the Buckeyes didn't border in order to keep up the facade of a CornBuck alliance. That facade was dropped last night, though, as our alliance went public. But only after Ohio State's presence in the West was reduced to just two territories in SoCal. Not bad, not bad at all.
So with the picture painted, it gives me great pleasure to announce the Alliance of Hated Powerhouses (alternative title: The Three Husketeers). We have joined forces with the Texas Longhorns and Nebraska Cornhuskers to form a triumvirate of proud schools who understand basic math and probabilities. With the Longhorns and the Cornhuskers at our sides -- along with your CONSISTENT play EVERY DAY -- we shall battle the Buckeyes and Aggys over the next 17 days to determine the ultimate College Football Risk champion!
You guys showed up last night (we finally broke the 1,200 player mark and had 5,550 power).....now let's show our friends just how committed / nerdy we are and go for 1,300 players and 6,000 power! Let's Go Blue!

Ok, but it looks like we lost a whole bunch of territory to Nebraska in the west.

All part of the plan. We're working together to take on the Bucks, and they need some territory to play with.

Are you sure they are actually not just pretending to be pretending. Do you think they could do to Michigan what they did to Ohio State.

these are 3 star territories that have to be defended.
unacceptable.
where are the 5 star territories? i mean, if we are losing territories to the nebraskas of the world, we might as well pack up our little maize wagon and go home.
Oceania was at war with Eastasia: Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.

Red Team: Nebraska, OSU, OU, TAMU, Alabama, Wisconsin
So is the WI alliance no more?
We had a NAP with Wisconsin, not an alliance. And yes, the NAP is no more
Exactly what I was wondering. Is this normal gameplay or something devious?
Georgia Tech still tho front-runner tho, right?
Sure, but once the last few turns come down I can only imagine everyone will be attacking their territories since they don't have as much power as the top few teams.
I don't get how Michigan has 1,000 points more then the next threat and we cannot put them away.
Put my turn in. 18 moves in a row
As an alum of the university of Oklahoma, I have issues with our new friends, but I will continue to support our efforts to rid the world of the evil empire (and the Aggie’s with them).
ps. I am an alum of a school just south of the border and of course Meechigan.
Cannot wait for the day when the Gray of Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College is gone from the board for good.
