Recruits that could have been

Submitted by Losher on

Does anybody watch college football, and see some of the guys who were committed to Michigan or someone who seemed to be very interested in Michigan and think about what they could have done here?

Something I have thought about throughout this year while seeing guys who were committed to Michigan make plays at other schools. This is a discussion that comes up every now and then on the board  but with the state of college football right now it may be a good time to discuss some of the guys we wished would have ended up in the maize and blue.

I think there's an quote from Tom Brady out there where a reporter asked him what kind of job a "General Studies" degrees gets him, and Brady said something along the lines of, "I don't know, but I am sure glad that I got drafted hahaha."

To that point, I also have no idea what a "General Studies" degree gets the average person without any leverage/connections like being a former Michigan Wolverine player.

I get what you're saying.

But, Michigan football alums as a whole tend to come off a lot classier than OSU football alums.

Not saying there aren't some class acts from OSU, but as a whole, I like our guys a lot better.

And if that seems arrogant, to you, then so be it.

But environments do shape people much more than the average person believes (mountains of psych research shows this).

I don't even know that many people who study in the area they got their degree in anymore. So many liberal arts majors/ non-technical majors end up selling real estate, work in corporate, non-profits, or open their own businesses. Your school of choice can connect you to a network of influential people if you're savvy enough to leverage those connections. I'm speculating, but I imagine a degree from Bama might help you if you want to work in the region, but a UM degree seems more likely to help you nationwide.

Just wait for Peters and McCaffery.

These gentlemen were hand picked by the best damn QB coach on the planet. Give me 3-4 years of these guys in the system. Harbaugh will have them winning games by themselves. We're going to have Andrew Luck types on this team in the next few years.

I know some of these guys don't have education on the mind and want to play in the SEC, but it would concern me if I was a parent if my kid had to constantly compete to have their one year scholarship renewed every year. I'd rather have my kid at a school with a four year guaranteed scholarship.

Jaylen Brown and Tyus Battle. I know it's not football, but just two more examples of countless instances where Beilein had this program left standing at the altar. Always a bridesmaid, but never a bride.

These were guys that would've kept the '12-'13 momentum going and potentially saved this program from where it is now.

Damien Harris - killing it
Gareon Conley - stud
Josh Garnett - was a monster
Andreas Pear - was a monster
Baron Browning - Harbaugh had his bro? Wtf!!!!
Terrell Pryor - Still pissed on that one
Dashawn Hand - I still think he was paid
Malik McDowell - head scratcher

If I think hard enough I know there a few more.

In hindsight, I'm glad we didn't land Pryor... Not that he wasn't good, but because he was and I think he would've made up for a lot of RichRod's deficiency's, possibly pulling out a few more games each year, which might have resulted in both he and Brandon sticking around longer.

I tend to agree that Rich didn't get the fairest of shakes... But I still don't think he was going to be the answer long term regardless. So best to minimize his tenure and get to where we are headed now a little more post haste.

and stop sulking about what could have been.  Why?  Harbaugh is building UM to be in the mold of Bama.  Relax, it's coming.

I like your posts. You're level headed and too many people on here are constantly freaking out and playing off the trolls on the board. Harbaugh is already beginning to elevate the program to championship heights. Recruits we're getting now are unbelievable
