Saline presented the toughest test of the year so far for Dexter and Cabana, with Saline having had a share of the SEC Red title for the last 9 years and could have won a share with a win over Dexter. Of course, Saline also has CJ Carr as their QB.

Dexter offense ran through Cabana. Notable Items from article:

  • First Dexter TD: "Reeves Taylor completed five passes, three to Joey Tessmer and one each to Cole Cabana and Brennan Parachek to move to the Saline 41 to end the first quarter. The Dreads faced a 4th and one when Cabana busted free for 21 yards to the Hornets 20. Five plays later Cabana busted in from five yards out and a Gerzon Herter extra point made it 7-6 Dexter." (Apparently a lot of "busting" by Cabana.)

  • Second Dexter TD: "Garrett Baldwin returned the kickoff to the Saline 41, but two plays later Micah Davis stepped in front of a pass for Dexter and returned it to the Saline 37. Three straight Cabana carries moved the ball to the Saline 14 and Taylor hit Cabana with a swing pass for a 14-yard TD and a 14-6 lead."
  • Third Dexter TD: "It was all Cabana from there as he touched the ball the next eight plays and scored on a two-yard run with 5:49 left to give Dexter a 21-14 lead."

  • "Cabana finished with 137 yards rushing and 2 TD’s and 46 yards receiving and a TD for Dexter."
  • "Dexter improved to 8-0 and finished 7-0 in the SEC Red. The Dreadnaughts snapped a 59-year drought without a football league title. They now set their sights on another streak when they travel to Chelsea to face the arch-rival Bulldogs. Dexter has not beaten the Bulldogs in the last 26 years." (Dexter has been bad at football for a LONG time...)

Definitely a higher caliber opponent than previously played against, and Cabana rose up for the occasion for the big game.

Cabana definitely has the "Cole is in the game on the second series of his freshman year!" look to him. Going to be a fun one! Eric Gray was one that got away that reminds me of him. Very shifty.

I love that two of the traditionally horrible local schools (Dexter and AA Huron) are both now amongst the top teams in the state in football and have Michigan commits on their rosters.

When are we going to get a recruiting update?  Curious how we are finishing up with the 2023 class and the headway we're making with 2024s.

The recruiting board is VERY outdated.

Saline should have stuck with the Navy ripoff helmets instead of going with the LSU ripoff helmets. Probably cost them that title.

Having played football for Saline back in the 90s when it was tough going, I really want to be a fan of the Hornets, but I can't do it with the CJ betrayal. Nice to see his granddad honored the next day. Go Dreadnaughts!
