Quinn Nordin expected to make Patriots' roster
"According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Patriots are “expected to stick” with rookie kicker Quinn Nordin over incumbent Nick Folk to begin the 2021 regular season."

If true there is definitely a home here in Cleveland for Folk.
BTW Malik MacDowell is not only making the Browns roster, he's starting!

That isn't surprising to me. Young kid with tons of talent only had to mature. Easier said than done tho to be fair. Some never figure it out. Glad to see he turned it around, Spartan or not. It isn't like he did anything too bad as far as the NFL is concerned. Lots of people with more egregious issues in their past collecting NFL checks.

No kidding about people with more egregious issues.
Pretty sure Josh Gordon is on his seventh or eighth strike with the league and will probably still get another shot at some point.

Turns out all he needed was a supervisor.

Good for him. He looked about as done as anyone, and without the character needed to fight all the way back. The fact that he did it is quite an accomplishment.

As a Browns fan, I did not think DT was an area of strength pre-season (as opposed to DE. They look, dare I say, decent?

That's a bit of a surprise. I saw his preseason game against the eagles and he was missed a FG and an extra point or two. That usually means you don't make the team.
August 31st, 2021 at 3:03 PM ^
Shocker, everyone has him going to the practice squad.
August 31st, 2021 at 11:42 PM ^
well they told him that "the practice squad" was "an extra point" and "the team" a 52-yarder into the wind, so...
naturally...he missed the former and

I'm a bit surprised, but I have to assume Belichick of all people knows what he's doing.
Even if he did give up on Tom Brady a bit too early.

I think Quinn probably is lights out in practice and gets the yipps when there is a game.

Nordin reminds me of Robbie Gould, the one-time PSU kicker. Neither Gould or Nordin was particularly steady in their college career (Gould was sub 60% in both his Jr and Sr years!), but the raw ability is simply there.
The mental switch turned on for Gould post-college. If the same thing happens for Nordin, he'll have a 15-year pro career and make a whole lot of $$$.
Both were also, FWIW, originally signed as UDFA's by Belichick and the Patriots.

This is wild. He's probably going to have an even shorter leash than a typical kicker. Bill is ruthless.
In other Michigan/NFL news, Ben Bredeson was just traded to the Giants. As far as I've seen, all UM players that were expected to make NFL rosters look like they will do so. Ben Mason seems kinda iffy for the Ravens as they already had an established FB. I believe Ben Braden was cut from the Packers and Nick Eubanks is likely to get cut from he Cowboys.
It appears that Chris Evans has won the 3rd RB spot for the Bengals. He's been really good for them through training camp.

“I can't sit here and tell you that he's gonna be a success. Uh, I can't sit here and tell you that he's even the best man for the job. But I can say this. He's got potential. Sure. You know, I always say, "go big or go home." You go with this guy, you could be making the biggest mistake of your life. Or the biggest good decision of your life. It's either gonna be the best thing you ever did, or the worst thing you ever did”

Here is one case where we can’t blame JH for not giving a kid enough of a chance

The Patriots do like them some Michigan guys.

He made the team, and Cam Newton got cut. Who'da thunk it?

Cam Newtton - $5 million base plus $9 million in incentives
Nick Folk - $1.6 million plus $0.9 million in incentives

Should've had a picture of Hyman Roth to go with that quote.

Very happy for him and the other Michigan alum on teams. Go blue.

Good for him. Definitely didn't see that coming .......

Good for Nordin. Wishing him a good career.
August 31st, 2021 at 6:54 PM ^
Pretty surprising given that Folk hit 26/28 FG last year, putting him #7 in accuracy among kickers with at least 20 FG attempts.
Happy for Nordin, but this is an odd move.

Excellent. Anyone know what’s going on with Cam Newton.
August 31st, 2021 at 9:05 PM ^
I’m in Massachusetts. Unofficial word on the street here (the usual NE sports radio pundits) are saying that Cam asked to be released rather than being demoted. I don’t know if that’s true.

There was also a lot of talk here about Chase Winovich potentially getting cut. I’m so glad to see him on the roster, I love watching him.
So the Pats now have Josh Uche, Chase Winovich, Mike Onwenu, and Quinn Nordin on the roster. Go Blue Pats!

Does Michigan get partial credit for Devin Asiasi, who played his freshman year at Michigan before transferring to UCLA?
