Quad 1 Win Posbang

MBB deserves a posbang for playing their best game in while. Consider:

- closed out a win against a hungry team. NW was beat up and tired

- Hunter played his best mix of post and block moves, only one foul, too

- McDaniels and Bufkin were solid at the 1 and 2

- and, of course, a quad 1 win!

Team is in a similar position to the 2017 team that got red hot down the stretch. Made the tourney as a 7 seed even including two brutal losses down the stretch at Minnesota and NW.  They are not out of it yet.

It just occurred to me that I think the OP doesn’t know “Quad 1” actually means something statistically specific and isn’t just a cool name for a big win.

Always best to be playing your best at the end of the regular season. No question that Michigan caught Northwestern and Ohio State at the perfect time. The Wildcats were somewhat exhausted from their truncated schedule due to their COVID limitations. The Buckeyes (NET Rank-36 before today), reeling since they started 10-3, now are 1-9 in their last ten games and 5-11 in Quad 1/2 games. But a win’s a win, even if the NCAA Tournament Committee doesn’t give much respect to those two wins. LINK to NET Rankings

As the only team in the NET Top 75 with a losing record, Ohio State’s in danger of falling out of the Top 50 in the updated NET rankings. Their schedule gets harder (home-and-home with Michigan State-NET 45; at Iowa-NET 33 and Purdue-NET 4; hosting Northwestern-NET 57, Penn State-NET 53, Illinois-NET 26 and Maryland-NET 28). Like Michigan they’ve now got five chances to pick up Quad 1 wins.

Michigan’s remaining schedule includes home-and-home with Indiana-NET 21 and Wisconsin-NET 69; hosting Nebraska-NET 101 and Michigan State-NET 45; at Rutgers-NET 19 and Illinois-NET 26. Win three of those to get to 10 conference wins and the Wolverines should be considered for the NIT if they’re left out of the NCAA Tournament. They’re one of FIVE teams currently tied for third place in the Big Ten standings at 7-5.

It wouldn’t surprise me if a few “bracketologists” in their next projections consider Michigan for an 11-seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Is Maryland a quad 1 win now that they're in the top 30?  I don't think they were top 30 when we demolished them at Crisler.  Not sure if it's retroactive like that.

Interestingly enough, our record after 23 games is exactly the same as last season. Let's keep the momentum going and scoop up a few more solid wins and sneak into the tourney.

Though the "right Quad" win is important come March Madness selection, a win over the Buckeyes in any sport is always welcome, enjoyed, and appreciated.
