QB KJ Costello Crystal Ball to Mississippi St (Mike Leach) by Steve Wiltfong

With it looking like the talk that KJ Costello might transfer to Michigan is over, Dylan McCaffrey fans can breathe a sigh of relief. It looks like Costello is going to Mississippi St to be with Mike Leach.

At no point in that post did he say "Michigan is going after Costello." He even says he's only addressing players who might have been rumored to be targets of Michigan.

He listed a dozen transfers and theorized how they would fit at Michigan if Michigan were to go after them. Which again, he did not say Michigan was in fact going after them.

I would like Michigan to be done with transfer quarterbacks now. Unless of course in the unlikely scenario a Fields or Burrow type transfer is interested, in which case absolutley bring them in.

What you just highlighted is something we haven't seen at Michigan in a while.  All it is is "Quarterback Development".  Players should get better year after year...and the returning starting QB by a measurable degree (Especially with a decent OL and capable WR's).

One could try and pin Shea's lack of development on OC Coaching / schematic changes.  But not pulling the ball when he should have and consistently missing throws down the field cannot be pinned on coaching changes alone.

I would love for to be done with transfer QB's too.  Harbaugh has had to do it out of necessity...not out of choice.  We just need JH to recruit and develop a legitimate top 3 B10 QB.  So far after 5 years he has failed to do that.  I would have made a $500,000 bet that at the end of year 5 that would not have been the case.

Lol...solid comment. Theres been more success stories then just Fields and Burrow. Michigan had their best season in the past ten years with a transfer QB (Rudock). Also Hurts, Kyler Murray, Mayfield, the list goes on. This years transfers at the QB position are not the greatest but I think its definitely something that should be heavily monitored moving forward.

That being said we should pick up 4 of them on the DL/OL. Doesn't matter who they are. Thompson would be lovely from Oklahoma.

It shouldn't pain you to say it, but we all know that season was a mirage.  It was like the Sparty 2015 playoff team - a good team that had no business getting as far as it did, and only got that far due to luck and schedule.

2016 was the best team, 2018 was really good too.  Then 2015 or 2011, both were good.

This has to be on of my least favorite hot takes. QB is the most imporant position on field. I would like Michigan to have the best possible talent we can get at QB at all times. If we can get a transfer who is possibly better than anyone we recruited out of high school, then we should take them, full stop.

I don't understand how people can complain about Michigan not recruiting well enough under Harbaugh and then also insist that we shouldn't upgrade our roster via transfers whenever and wherever we can.

Good.  I’d like to see a kid in the program get a shot.  Not too impressed with Costello anyways.

also, fuck Stanfurd.  Roll on you Bears.

I guess a lot of people don't pay attention along the way.

Thunder at TouchTheBanner talked about it. You probably don't know who he is.

NOTE: I am only looking at players that Michigan has been tied to in one way or another, because otherwise, obviously this would be way too overwhelming.

K.J. Costello (RS Sr.) – QB – Stanford: Costello only played in five games in 2019 due to injury, but he completed 61.1% of his passes for 1,038 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. (His numbers were much better in 2018 when he completed 65% of his passes for 3500 yards, 27 TD, and 11 INT.) Michigan recruited Costello out of high school. Costello lacks the athleticism to run Josh Gattis’s offense to its full potential (18 carries for 24 yards in 2019), and he also has some issues with his mechanics. He would also cause upheaval to Michigan’s quarterback depth chart. If you bring him in, you probably intend for him to start – which would probably ensure that Dylan McCaffrey and/or Joe Milton transfer.

Just because Costello had Michigan as a finalist coming out of High School 4 years go doesn't mean he was ever in talks to transfer to Michigan.

When you google "KJ Costello Michigan," all that comes up is Yoder's dumb ass and stories about Costello coming out of High School.

I don't consider a guy who was once recruited by Michigan 4 years ago as "in talks" to transfer. Those are 2 completely different things and even in TTB's post (yes I know who that is), it's all just hypotheticals about the fit and even states that the tie is that Michigan recruited him out of high school.

This will be DM's 4th year in the program ... it is now or never.

Needs to hit that weight room and add more size, learn to keep his eyes downfield on scrambles and slide when needed if running.   Move the chains and stay on the field instead of in the trainers room.

It seemed like nothing more than internet-only speculation all along, THANKFULLY.

I know we recruited this guy back as an elite high school prospect, but I watched a decent bit of him at Stanford and he was ... okay.  Certainly did not give any indication of some uber-talent for which we would want to further disrupt the QB room.

At this point, IMO we need to see Dylan and/or Joe rise up and deliver as a home-grown talent.  Jumping at the shiny new toy would be no bueno.
