I didn't like the play call in 4th down in our own end.  I wanted to see a zone read with JJ keeping it there.  Otherwise meh on coaching this week.  Needs to be better next week, for sure.

If you’re not fielding the punt, please get the fuck out of the way of the catch radius area.

Got lucky on a few close call punt block situations. Punt blocks are awesome, especially close to opposition’s goal line but you either sell out on the block or play it safe. No in between.

Lastly, can’t settle for FGs against PSU or OSU. If you get it inside the 10, it’s gotta be a TD given the weapons on the offense.

Dumb 4th down call at end of 1st half.

I didn't think it was worth risking JJ on the last drive but I get it.  Getting him to Nov 25 healthy should be priority 1

The bye week slums concern me as our team seems to perform better as they stay in weekly rhythm. We’ve seen this in a big way in the playoffs when they’ve had a month to prepare and heal, but look fairly flat and make mental mistakes when they are not in rhythm of playing consistently.

I hope this year is different

Ok now that I’ve turned off BPONE from last night (tough I must admit), one concerning item related to coaching.

the rust effect coming off the bye week is eerily similar to post season/bowl games. I don’t know how it can be explained but it worries me should the team make the CFP again

It almost seems like there is no coaching of special team's punt returns.  IMO the return guy has to make every effort to catch the punt on the fly.  And the blockers need to let their man go after he is by the blocker.  Seems like those should be two fundamental rules of punt returning.  In the first instance, catching the punt on the fly avoids having the ball hit one of your players and being recovered by the kicking team.  It also avoids bounces and long rolls.  I realize the returner can't always get to the ball in the air, and there may be times when a catch would be difficult, but, c'mon.  In the second instance, a blocker whose opposing player is already past him runs the risk of having the ball hit him or actually running into his own returner, because he has no clue where the ball is.  Trust the returner to either make a fair catch or have a clean catch and return.
