There was something very Purdue about following up a nice deep ball with a fumble by the QB that was also recovered by the QB.

That being said, Marshall is not normally known for its innovations in the world of defense and Purdue scores easily enough on the very next play. 17-14 Marshall and we're still not quite done with the 1st quarter.

Is Darrell Hazell the black version of Andy Reid in that he refuses to ever run the ball?

I don't think I've seen Purdue run in the past 6 minutes.

Is that Patrick Kugler's brother playing for Purdue?   It would be great if Patrick could get healthy and finally live up to his recruiting ranking.  The Michigan offensive line really needs him.  Right now it is the same combination of a walk on and under performers, who play passive and tenative.  As a result, there are hardly ever any creases for the slow RBs like Smith and Green to plunder though.  Without any healthy RBs who are quick and run with burst, their lack of push and aggression is a huge problem for the offense as it needs gaping holes for the big slow RBs to get through.

I made a post concerning this very question.

As I watched pretty much every game that was on this weekend I saw pretty much every team with a fast guy to whom they handed the ball, who runs forward with quickness, who has some elusiveness, and when hit, don't go down on first contact (in fairness, Smith is great at this last point).  Some teams, like Alabama and Notre Dame, have mulitple guys like this -- and in the case of Bama, probably have two more on the bench that would start immediately for Michigan.

Yes, Mr. Yost, I also saw top notch OLines who get push and open holes through which said fast guys carry the ball with quickness.  But, even crappy teams, like Purdue, and the myriad of FCS programs on display this weekend had running backs who look fast in relation to the rest of the players on the field.  I am not asking for Denard like elite speed, just someone who doesn't appear to be markedly slower than every other RB on every other team that I watched.

I agree that OL play and RB play go together, but man it's frustrating to watch.  It's like seeing an amazingly attractive woman with a complete loser -- you can't help but ask, "how the heck did that happen?" and "what's he got that I ain't got?"  I get the elite programs are going to have great RB's coming through, but many of these great looking RB's are not at elite schools at all, there at FCS and lower teir P5 programs.

I have no doubt that Harbaugh, Drevno, and Wheatley will find the next great Michigan RB here shortly, nor that they will get the Michigan OL to be a dominant unit again.  But man have we Michigan fans been waiting a long time, and had to endure seeing some great talent go everywhere but Michigan.
